When something appears that I don't like or that sems ugly or distasteful to me .... I merely look directly at it with my center vision and ..... Poof! it disappears. Sometimes it's good to have such magic.

Yep, with MD the central vision is just a blur or blob.. but the periphreal or side vision is good. The problem is that you focus with the center vision, not the side vision. I find it easy to see things if I look just off center ... but I can't focus, therein is the problem. I am fortunate that in the early years of my military service I was trained to use the periphreal vision for night vision purposes, and I continued throught my life to play with that even before I developed MD a few years back. Outside at night I can probably see as well or better than those without MD. This impairment, like so many others people suffer with, can be used to advantange in some ways, if we just seek the advantages out and use them.

Joseph, I dont quite understand how you trained yourself to see better for the night vision - by seeing through the peripheral vision? The iritis I have had has damaged my night sight and I would be really interested to know how you did that..... C X

It takes practice to utilize your side vision to your advantage. I think it is a matter of "concentration" ... go ahead, look straight ahead at an object, but pay attnetion to the sides, ignore the direct view, it is easy once you grasp the concept
It takes practice. Refuse to shift your focus to the side, don't move your focus, but as you stare straight ahead, concentrate on your side vision. I will happen with practice. It is not so unlike selective hearing. You are listening to a song, yet you can hear sounds around you. Same idea, as you listen to someone talking, you are also hearing a conversation between two other people ... you can block out the person talking to you and concentrate on the other conversation, right? Same idea.
