mitral valve prolapse

I have recently had tests on my heart, and was told by the nurse that i have mild mitral regurgatation. It is when the blood flows back into the atruim. Has anyone else got this problem. I have been having palpitations, and exhaustion after walking etc. I havn't yet seen the doctor to find out what treatment if any i need. I've heard it can be progressive which worries me. Last night i couldn't sleep for the palpitations, i don't think i could handle feeling this all the time. It also makes me cough.

" Hey, Jaci,

I have had pericarditis, but not this particular problem, I was told I had no valve damage though I never believed it... I have episodes of irregular heartbeat, but they are very infrequent.

What's good is that you got this diagnosed-- doctors and nurses can often miss this. Changes in diet, exercise, and beta blockers might well do the trick. There is a connective tissue component to this, though I don't completely understand exactly what it is. (As we've all learned, MCTD can have a wide variety of symptoms.)

One of my good friends had atrial fibrillation, and he's even more of a nut about layman's medical research than me... I'll see if he's got any help. I know that he had trouble sleeping as well, he didn't have mitral valve issues but something similar, and he did get it under control, but it took time and a lot of patience...

Hang in there... anyone else have any thoughts on this?

" Thanks matt and marilyn for replying to my post.
Matt your friend with atrial fibrillatiion, is it the same person who has lupus?
I've been mentioning my symptoms to my GP (general practitioner) for weeks now, he just kept saying i had a temperature and to take paracetomol. I'm glad the hospital took me seriously and found out what was wrong. Looking forward to getting the symptoms sorted out now.
Thanks for your help
