Well, this does sound like IBS...remember IBS is just a blanket term for bowel/stomach probelms, so everyone has different symptoms...luckily I have a job where I move around a lot, but like you I suffer with diarrhea and it is so embarrassing when I keep going to the loo, and people will ask me where I've been, I have come up with so many excuses!!!
The first step is to go see your doctor and get a proper diagnosis, untill you do that you'll just be more scared by not knowing what's going on. A food diary is a great way to keep track of what seems to set you off, and then you'll know what to avoid.
BUT...I hate to say this but stress is always the one thing that makes IBS worse, I am so sorry about the loss of your son. Are you having any counselling?? I would really recommend anything that can improve your stress levels, and not just medication.
But, go and talk to your doctor, be honest about everything and take it from there.
Good luck.

You probably need to keep warm and stop drinking carbonated drinks. The lovely fizzy bubbles can make it into your digestive system and push out the digested food before it's ready to go out. Also cold drinks can cause cramping in the intestines, so from now on you should drink warm tea (or green tea if you get the jitters). This should reduce the number of times you get intestinal cramps.
Best of luck getting over the emotional stuff.

So sorry about your son,I think your problems are made worse by stress and also the sweeteners and cola, even i cola has lots of artificial sweetner in it.I would cut them out and hve peppermint tea, fennel is good as well,so is Camomile, you could also get peppermint capsules, (Colpermin)
Hope all this helps.
Good luck. xxx

well i was never shy about telling people if i have to crap or not. especially if i'm sick i just say in plain day light i got ibs. maybe that's because i'm a former MArine, not sure. i am just not embarrassed about that kind of thing. anyway, my stress ibs is the opposite of your where i have pain like i have to run to the toilet but nothing will come out. so i wish i could help you and all i can really say is please see a GI specialist. hope it all goes well.

I had to take a medical leave so that I can deal with my stress and therefore be able to work with IBS. As mornings tend to be worse. And it hurts everytime I eat. And I cut out dairy. And eat some fiber, but cut down the amount I was eating as I generally ate lots of fruits and veggies and whole grain bread. Found its a balance thing. And warm liquids especially coffee can get things moving for me. So when I have diarrhea I stay away from coffee and fresh fruit and any types of fiber. I eat something with protein like chicken or beef and it tends to slow things down a bit. Sometimes a great big greasy sausage link. Oh I just cant help it. And with the dairy sometimes I have to give in, and I pay. But sadly not eating will keep me from not going to the bathroom. Not a great option. Stress management and diet changes seem to be the key. But as blossom said it is different with everyone.

I had to take myself off metformin because it triggered my ibs attacks. But that said, I read a couple books, and they taught me exactly what to do to take care of my excruciating IBS. you can find the books on helpforibs.com. WOW what a blessing this was!!! I've almost completely reversed my IBS. I've used a lot of Soluble fiber, and stay away from insoluble fiber!!! Also, fat (any kind, olive oil, butter... any kind) is a huge trigger. Peppermint, and fennel was very helpful to! Please everyone get the books on this website and read them! I've healed to the point of not having to watch what I eat almost ever! within two weeks I went from having 3-7 bad attacks a day, to 1 mild attack per week. and now I go months without any problems!!! I spent SO many YEARS in unbarable pain! and solved the problem in a couple weeks!!! Thank you to Heather who wrote these books, she has completely changed my life!!! good luck to everyone!!!
