Numbing with Antispadmotic Meds?
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
Hi everyone,

For those that take antispadmodic medications, such as Bentyl, can you let me know if you've experienced any numbing and tingling in your arms and legs?

I've been on Bentyl for almost a month and developed a numbing right arm and recently all of my arms and legs go through numbing and tingling spells accompanied with a rapid heartbeat.

I spend Friday night in the E.R. and they could not determine the cause. When I went home, I researched my meds and found that Bentyl does have some numbing and tingling side effects which aren't too common, though.

So, since yesterday morning, I stopped my Bentyl and have a little numbing but lots of stomach pain again. I'm waiting till Monday morning to hear from my gastro if the Bentyl is causing my numbness.

I always thing the WORST and now have MS stuck in the back of my mind.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

" I take Bentyl and have not noticed any numbing or tingling. However, I don't like to take medicine so don't take it daily but only as needed. "

" Hi, I took bentyl for 5 months and it sometimes worked and at times, it did not. It depended on the severity of the stomach spasims. Good luck, it just might work for you. Don't be afraid to give it a go. "

" I do like how the Bentyl works for my stomach, but I'm having severe side effects with the numbing, tingling and panic attacks. I see my gastro this afternoon to see if he can offer something different. "

" I was on Bentyl for many months because I didn't realize the side effects were a problem. The worse of the problems was double vision and loss of depth perception. The end result was that Bentyl did absolutely nothing to help my IBS. I just thought everything else in my life was wrong. After seeing the GI and having a colonoscopy, the doctor prescribed Hyomax-SL to be taken as 1 pill before each meal (about an hour). I had the hardest time understanding how this could help since I've suffered IBS-D for many years and nothing else worked. This med works!!! I usually eat 2 meals a day that are worth calling a meal. I have been taken this med for 2 months now and finally feel my IBS-D is in control. If you only eat 1 meal, you take 1 pill daily. I am gaining confidence again to go out with my family. I have yet to wear my beige summer slacks but maybe next year. I'm tired of wearing dark colors and depends just in case...

Hope this helps you. "

" Hi I use to take that med last year. It did work for several months. Once though, I had trouble with my motor skills and talking. It only lasted for 3 minutes or so. It was very scary. This was the only medication I was on at the time so it could not have been something else. It didn't happen again. However, the bentyl stop working for me all together. Wishing you luck. Make a note of any adverse affects and you can check with your pharmacist who also can tell you the drug interactions with medication. "

" Hi again,

I have been on Hyomax-SL for about 3 months now. I can't see any side effects but then I may be overlooking them or accepting them as I am on about 15 other meds also. The hardest part of being on this med is to remember to take it before a meal. I keep my meds in the bedroom (and away from nosey grandchildren visitors) so it is out of my sight and mind when preparing food. However, it is still working for me and I am thrilled. I have not had an IBS attack since June (thank you Lord!!!). I still have abdominal cramping because I have a spastic colon but I have gained back some of my confidence about going out and being ok.

Good luck to you all and be tough with your doctors until they find the right medication for you. "
