Ok i am a member of many groups for ibs and i many websites that claim to make us all better and i keep seeing posts on their from people doing the diet or taking the supplement and they are still just as bad and still suffering !!
I just wondered what people avoid as a rule - what makes them better and wat they tend to eat as a basis (as some of you know) im doing a diet and nutritino course to help people with eating and digestive disorders - my main aim to help people like us that suffer with ibs so i was jus after a bit of research !!

" Hi...I do know that each of us has different trigger foods and no one true diet will work for all IBS suffers. Also I just learned from my doctor that some IBS suffers have some type of anxiety or stress issues. This can effect the stomach and cause pain and nausia along with diarrhea. Maybe you knew this already. But again maybe a combination of knowing ones trigger food and get a handle on stress or anxiety that may be affecting us. Hope this helps "

" In addition to what the others have said, I find that anything with nitrites like pickles gets me very bloated/gassy. Also, carbonated beverages and artificial sweeteners can also cause bloating for me. The worse offender I think is probably stress! "

" I find that I can eat one thing one day and be fine, and then the next day it sets me right off!!
But, as a rule of thumb I always avoid:
-dairy, especially cream
-spicy foods
-greasy food
-salty food
-fizzy drinks
-too much fruit/raw vegetables in one sitting
I mean, it really is trial and error, and sometimes I will think "sod it" and have a bowl of ice cream, but generally i keep to this. "

" I try to follow the Chinese method of diet therapy. Foods are classified as yin or yang. Generally yang foods will remove water from your stool; yin foods will allow more water to stay in your stool.
Generally an ice cold glass of lemonaide (very yin) will cause an IBS-D person to have to run to the nearest rest room within a very short period of time. A person with IBS-C would probably be sent into agony by eating a dinner with lots of spices (very yang). I also try to avoid foods that make lots of gas (beans) or carbonated drinks since they create a mechanical pressure that makes my IBS-D symptoms worse. And like many other people avoid milk and substitute rice milk which is neither yin nor yang.

I've previously posted lists of foods that "promote and encourage" bowel movements for IBS-C people. "
