Disability due to Pain

Do any other people with IC find that their doctors have given them a difficult time requesting even SHORT-TERM disability when there haven't been any treatment methods that have worked thus far, and the pain is still AWFUL? I have been on a thirty-day unpaid medical leave from work and I am still unable to return, and the doctor won't help me fill it out because he says he has never signed out anyone with IC (not to mention I have only seen him once...I have seen the P.A.-C for the weekly DMSO installations), and she won't fill them out either because she stated," I guess I am just personally biased against disability because then people never seem to get out of it....", etc., etc., etc. However, they must acknowledge that nothing has worked, because I am scheduled for Hydrodistention on 10/22. My PCP can't sign it and neither can my pain management doctor because they aren't the ones who have been primarily treating this. I am going to get a second opinion on the 30th and appeal my S/T disability application (which I know will get denied with no doctor's support), but STILL! How can they not help me when week after week I tell them that nothing is helping and in the meantime I have no income. I am going to lose everything because these people won't help me and I am in so much pain.

" Have you tried a phychiatrist for this help? Sorry I know I spelled that wrong but that is how I got my SSI in the end. My URO and Family doc and gyno all helped with it too but I sort of went off the deep end sort of because I couldn't deal with anymore of everything going on with the IC and I was sent to one. Only went once and she said I wasn't crazy I just needed help and that is how I got it. I had no money so was always hearing how I was living off of everyone.
I can't belive your doctor saying she doesn't belive in disability. Bet she wouldn't say that if some day the same thing happened to her. "

" Hi, thank you so much for your advice. I do need to seek out someone to speak with; however, my only problem is that I am an LCSW/PHD myself, and I would rather not have another Psychologist or Psychiatrist sign me out because since this is my field, I don't want to be stigmatized from going back to it forever. I DO feel depressed and impaired at this time due to the pain, and this all just seems like a vicious cycle,...and only because my Uro won't help me...this all just fees like I am never going to get out of this. I'm sorry for venting, but I really do appreciate your reply, and I am going to seek someone out to talk to about all of this anyway. :) "

" I'm so sorry you doctor won't help you out. That is just not right. I wish I could give you some advice but I don't know anything that could help. Good luck. You'll find a way to get it. "

" Hi, oh yes that happend to me before I was diagnosed. I told the doctors it was hard for me to ride the subway and to work all day. They said we can't put you on disability. I just wanted to be on un till they can help me find what was going on. It is very frustrating when no one understands what you are feeling. I wish you luck I hope youe get it. "
