pelvic floor therapy

Has anyone else had a problem with pelvic floor therapy? I only tried it one time and I had such a bad flare, it lasted 5 days. My dr. told me to stop because it is supposed to help not cause pain. He told me it may be due to the fact that I am in the end stage of I.C. I'm a little concerned because I know there's not a lot of options out there, so I wanted to try the therapy. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem or if I'm abnormal. At least there is still the Elmiron although that may take a while to work. God is the great healer also! So I keep praying and praying for you all.

" Hi Jeanzy, Sorry you are having a tough time.. When I first got diagnosed years ago I did the pelvic floor therapy and it did cause me some pain and discomfort and I actually had to apply ice but I thought most of that was due to me having Vulvodynia as well? I am not 100% sure though, do you have this problem as well? I actually am about to start therapy again to see if I have an improvement because my bladder is in tough shape. Have you tried acupuncture? It's my lifesaver!!!!! It makes such a difference in my pain levels.. Hope things start to get better for you BIG HUGS "

" I was in therapy until my insurance decided I was done. I really found it very helpful. I was miserable the first few sessions, but slowly my body got used to it. My therapist told me that 8 years ago there were no manuals available for pelvic floor therapy. It's still fairly new medicine and evolving all the time. Can you try another therapist? "

" Hi Jeanzy,
I had an awful time with pelvic floor therapy. I made it through 3 sessions and had to stop. It was so painful and it lasted for days. Not everyone responds to it, so don't think you alone in this.

" Hi there,

I´m very sorry to hear how much pain you were in due to pelvic therapy. I´ve been doing pelvic therapy now for over a year and my symptoms have improved quite a bit, including cutting back on using the bathroom and the IC pain decreased. But last year, when I first started therapy, I had a lot of problems the first month. I think it just took awhile for the therapy to start working. When you start to stretch and exercise your pelvic muscles and you have IC or vulvodynia pain at the same time, it can be pretty tough. I´ve heard good and bad things about therapy. I stuck it out and it seemed to really help me. I hope that your symptoms improve, even though pelvic therapy may not be for you. It really depends on how strong your pelvic muscles were before therapy. Have a good day!

Laura "

" Hey there,
I'm currently in my fourth month of pelvic floor therapy, and I've seen amazing results. I won't tell you it was easy, and still isn't easy, sometimes its more painful than the IC flareups itself but each day things are starting to get better. I truly believe that if you have the right physical therapist who knows what he or she is doing, it can make a big difference. I wish you the very best of luck! "

" My First Pelvic floor pt made me do too many exercises that flared me up. The second Pt was really good and it helped alot!!
I did have a few visits with a flare up but it helped alot.
My insurance only pays for so many PT visits a year and I also go for TMJ.
Sometime i want to go back. "
