Anyone tried this? Does it help? Is it comparable to prescription sleeping meds? I'm looking to change from lunesta/ambien to something more natural. Oh, is it addicting at all...can it be used long-term?

Thanks!

" I have started using melatonin. Prior, I was taking Rozaerem and have also taken Ambien and Amitriptyline in the past. It took about a week, but after establishing a routine and getting used to it, Melatonin works much better than anything else I have taken. I wake feeling refreshed and not sleepy throughout the day. The bottle says to take 3 mg but due to my high tolerance to sleeping medications, I am presently taking 6 mg. I plan to cut down eventually. It is not addicting. I can't report it's long term efficiency, but everything I have read online seems positive. "

" I find that with the 3mg tablets if you take them like a pill instead of putting them under your tung like it says to do, they work so much better in comparison "

" I take melatonin everynight and have for the past three years. Most nights it helps me, but occassionally it doesn't. However, it isn't bad for you the way that most prescription meds are. I like the chewable tablets...they taste like peppermint. You can take up to 5 mg. per night healthily. Sometimes I will wake up during the night, but a lot of the time they help me. "

" Melatonin can help, but it depends on the cause of your sleep problems. I've tried it in many forms, at different times of day and in different formats, but it did nothing for me. However, many people find it effective and doesn't have the side effects of most perscription sleep-aids, such as addiction. Give it a try, and I hope it works for you! "
