I am a teen in my junior year in high school and I have not been able to fall asleep before 2 in the morning for the past month. I must wake up at 5:30 in order to get to school in time. I've told my parents about the situation, and have asked to be treated. They refuse to take me to a doctor or put me on any sleep medication. I have asked them to take me to a therapist to help me find the root of my insomnia. They just refuse to take me seriously. I have tried drinking a glass of milk before I go to bed, but I still cannot fall asleep. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can cope with the insomnia or how I can make my parents understand that I am suffering?

" Hello. Difficult situation for you to be in. Sleep medication is all very well but it is only a quick fix to help you through today and short term. You need to think past today because sleep medication is addictive and your parents dont want you to fall into this trap. Its very easy to get into a 'bad 'habit' with sleep. Just a few nights and you start to worry about why it is not happening. Worrying about it causes more sleep disruption. If this has only been for a month then what has changed in your life to bring this about? Try to figure out what it might be. If you cant shut down your brain when you go to bed then start a journal and write in it before bed any troubles you might have.A good thought blocking word is THE. You can say it over and over to block out unwanted thoughts.
Take care. "

" I know this problem all too well. Sometimes I wouldn't fall asleep until about 5am...when I had to get up at 7am for school. I had this problem ALL through school though. Elementary AND high school.

I have found this tea that works for me though...if you don't mind tea that tastes more like peppermint honey. It actually works. However, I'd try it first on a Friday night just before you go to bed. The VERY first time I tried it...I slept for nearly 12hours...fell asleep stayed asleep. Now every time I know I have some time to catch up on sleep but know I won't be able to fall asleep right away...or stay asleep. I have a cup of this tea and I'm out. I wake up feeling great. It's called Yogi Bedtime tea. It worked for me....and I've had this problem more then half my life. Nothing else has ever worked for me...unless I was REALLY sick and had neocitrin. But this did.

Hope you're doing a bit better, take care hun. "

" I'm a junior in HS as well. lately ill stay up past 3 a.m ive been doing it for 2 months now
im constantly exhausted and cant focus throughout the day but then i stay up again late at night
i havent really found anything that works..
i try self hypnosis and it only does so much
plus its not an easy thing to do
sometimes instead of doing something i try to lay down and fall asleep in the dark. but me wanting to be up and moving or do something gets in the way
i really hope your parents will seek help for you.. if not do it on your own and get different prices of a psychiatrist based on your helath insurance if u do or dont have any
then show it to them so they know that your being serious and you already found some to go to "
