Hello - I'm new here. My husby and I just moved to a new state, and were planning to meet with a new RE to start trying to get pregnant. I have PCOS. I have had one successful pregnancy and have an awesome 3 year old son. In our previous jobs, we had insurance to cover infertility treatments. Now we don't... and we so desperately want another child! I have called around to see what things cost to pay out of pocket. We really don't have any money, but maybe thought we could come up with enough, or make payments, or anything like that. Come to find out, it's over $1500 just for one IUI cycle. And they require up front payments! Any advice?

" Wow that is a lot for an IUI, I'm assuming that is meds, and all dr. visits, and blood tests....?

I just had my first IUI, and everything all together was under $500, so you may want to shop around.

Otherwise see if you have a flex plan with your new jobs, you can usually save a little using a flex plan and they allow infertitlity. "

" What state are you in? I am in Ohio and the actual IUI "only" cost us $350 which included DH's sample and washing. My Clomid was $67 (150 mg a day) and my ovidrel was $74. I would recommend shopping around. "

" Find out if your insurance covers diagnostic infertility. If they do then they will cover the blood work and ultrasound. They may also cover your injectables.

Call your member services line. Also, see if the docs office will give you the diagnostic billing codes...give those to the insurance co. that will help speed up the process! "

" Wow idahobaby, under $500?? is that with no meds? I did an IUI with injectibles & we paid $2500.
My insurance does not pay a penny of fertility. We have paid cash for everything. We have just started stim meds for our first IVF & were able to take out a loan with CapitalOne. They have a special finance plan specifically for Fertility treatments. It was very easy to qualify. We got our answer immediatley while applying online.
Since you were talking about wanting to make payments I just thought I'd let you know how we managed to make payments.
Our RE wants all money up front too.
Good Luck!! "

" Wow, it really seems to vary. I am in Canada and IUI is $350 with meds around the same as Erind mentioned. All bloodwork, ultrasounds and RE visits are covered. "

" PrayingForASibling, I am in the same boat as you financially. My dh has an HMO and they cover half of fertility costs as long as it stays within their organization (bw,ov,hsg, ultsound). I only have to pay $5 for clomid. However, once we're transferred to Shady Grove, they don't cover anything. With my debt ratio so high, we may not qualify for a loan w/ Cap. One or Care Credit and all of my credit cards are to the limit and my dh doesn't have high limits on his cc's. I don't know how we're going to do this myself! If we shop around for some other fertility place, we'll have to do all that testing all over again and I'm not paying for it all over again! I don't know what we're going to do!! "

" I would recommend calling your insurance carrier. I was under the impression ours only covered the meds (which was still good since they are soo expensive) but my carrier has also been picking up the costs of the monitoring (bloodwork/ultrasounds) which is really what drives the costs of the IUI up. The actual IUI for us is only about $600 (including sperm washing) but the monitoring was close to $2,000. I've also heard about the loan through capital one so you may want to look into that. "
