You're out for like 20-30 mins. Actually you're not quite out, just loopy and you won't remember a thing about the procedure. When you wake up you'll feel a little sore - like period cramps. I also felt a little rectal pain (sorry TMI) the first time, but not the second - this is I think because they puncture the back of your vagina which is close to a lot of nerves. It really isn't much pain. You go home, sleep it off and you should be fine by tomorrow. I mean you'll still feel tender and bloated for a few days but not too much and you'll be able to go to work and everything.
Now if you overstimulated you may have more ovarian pain - also if you had many eggs (I only had up to 9) then your ovaries may feel more tender. What helped me overall was not to eat much the day before and the day of the procedure - just drink lots of liquids and eat soups and stuff. This minimized bloating. Good luck!

I think I was out for about 20 minutes and I was completly out. When I woke up, I really didn't have much pain at all. I actually walked out of the hospital under my own power. I walked slowly but still walked on my own. I was hyperstimulated so I had more pain then athe average person. I had 28 eggs! It took me several days before I could walk more than short distances without being in pain or tired. However, they do encourage you to walk around afterwards. Drink lots of water and gaterade. This will help with any OHSS and bloating, but I was still pretty bloated for about a week. GL to you will do fine.

I have had 3 retrievals & have felt just fine after each one. I had alot of eggs retrieved each time (20-22) but didn't feel any pain or cramps or anything. Just hungry! :-)
Good luck to you!

After my retrieval I did not take my tylenol paid medicine like my doctor suggested, and I regretted it. I had 17 eggs retrieved, so, I think that is why i had so much pain. But, it was not really bad. I should have listened to my doctor about the pain reliever.. =) Best Blessings to you!

I was out for about 30 minutes, or just out of it. Just don't get up too fast after the procedure. When I did I vomited. I went home after and slept for the rest of the day. I went back to work the next day.

Dont worry.
The whole process does not take long.(about 15 to 20 mins) I was concious throughout but pretty happy!!! Lots of sedation.DH was right beside me holding my hand and rubbing my forehead. That felt pretty good as he isnt into PDA!!! Once over I walked from the theatre to my cubicle albeit a little unsteady and supported by DH and one of the nurses . The cup of tea afterwards was fab. Drink plenty of water afterwards throughout the day even if you dont feel like it in between sleeping the sedation off.
Good Luck

I am so excited for you. Your are nearing the end and the part that gives you the most information. For me there was not a lot of pain....more discomfort than anything. So exciting to hear exactly how many good eggs they got. The last round I had 14 eggs and it was easy this time than the first because I knew what to expect. Get home take it easy and try to pamper yourself. I scheduled a massage for later that day when I was clear of the drugs they give you to sleep.
So exciting. My clinic did my first IM shot right after so I was out and did not feel it and the DH saw were to do it. Something to ask them about.

Not so bad. You'll be fine. Not a long time out and wake up with no pain at all. No worries.... All is well and keep an eye on the big picture (baby). All will be well!!

I was out for about 20-30 minutes. With my first retrieval it wasn't too bad but with my 2nd.............OMG I was in a lot of pain. I think it's because I had 12 eggs the first time and 22 the 2nd. My estrogen was also very high so I was really bloated and uncomfortable. I actually had to take a pain pills the first day and a half. Just follow doctors orders and you'll heal fast. I also think everyone is different and each IVF is different. The first time I was uncomfortable but I was up and moving the next day this time it took like 4 days just for me to be able to feel ok walking again. I wish you lot's of luck and try not to stress out too much about it.
oxoxo,
Lyd

It's not bad at all, I barely had any pain but took the next day off of work to pamper myself. You will do great, I'm so excited for you!!
