Convince my Hubby!

So I told DH about my accupuncture appointment tomorrow and he is less than thrilled. I had talked to him about my interest in seeing an accupuncturist, but apparently he didn't take me seriously. He thinks it's a waste of money.

The real issue is that I am obese and he feels that the only way for me to lose weight and for us to have a baby is for me to have gastric bypass. Right now I'm just not ready to do that. I would like to try accupuncture and see how it works, but he feels like it's too expensive and a waste of time and money.

I've been printing articles on the benefits of accupuncture for infertility and PCOS in an effort to convince him it's not a scheme.

Do any of you have any success stories I can pass along to him in an effort to open his mind?

" I have similar problems to yours and I had accupuncture before my last IUI... I really feel like that treatment made all the difference - I was so totally and completely relaxed. It is so much less invasive than any type of surgery... if you decided to do a major surgery like that you will need a lot of time to recover before you can even think about getting pregnant.... Most insurance does not cover gastric bypass anyway so this would technically be cheaper! I'm all for holistic methods before getting cut open! Good luck! "

" I don't necessarily have a success story for you but I do want to tell you that I fully believe in the benefits of it. I went to an acupuncturist after my second m/c because it was taking forever to start my period. I went in with an open mind and I started my period three hours after leaving the office. It is also very relaxing. I went to her an hour before I had my IUI on Monday. I will let you know how that goes. Hang in there. "

" I dont have a success story, yet, but I think I will. Have been going once a week for the past 3 months in preparation of my IVF. Overall it has helped me to relax and be lessed stressed. She is also working on keeping my hormones in balance, I will see that that looks like in a couple weeks with my first blood test. I am a big proponent! "

" Have your dh google "pregnancy after gastric bypass" - most articles agree that for the health of the baby you should wait at least 12 to 18 months for your wait to stabilize before getting pregnant... it's also a little more difficult to get all of the nutrients your baby would need. "

" I can't vouch for the acupuncture but I can vouch for the Gastric Bypass. I had it done over 5 years ago and it was the BEST THING I ever did for myself and if I had to do it again I would in a second. If you wanted info on it, message me and we'll chat.

That said - it's a personal decision that each person has to come to on their own and I would never encourage someone to do that drastic of a surgery if they didn't want it.

You need to do what YOU FEEL is the best thing for you. If you can try Acupuncture and have some modicum of success wtih that, then GREAT! Whatever you decide, you are doing GREAT. You are seeking medical assistance, you are trying to be healthy, and your on the right path. JUST KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and you'll see results soon!

ps - Hope is right....if you do the surgery, you need to wait at least 12 months to stabilize safely...HOWEVER nowadays the risks are much lower than they used to be and pregnancy after a surgery is not nearly at risk like it would have been 10 or more years ago. "

" I have been doing accupuncture for the past 4 months. My doctor says "Yes- do it". She said the it can often take 3 months to see the effects. I have been going once a week. My insurance does NOT pay for it but I think it is money well spent. Heal the whole body/mind/spirit together. I wish you the best. "

" I have also been considering accpuncture. I have been doing a lot of reading and it seems that it works diffrently for everyone. There are a lot of sucess stories. 6 months to 1 year is reccomended.

I would NEVER have gastric bypass. I can tell you so many horror stories about that. Even a little weight loss is helpful (7% of body weight is a recent statistic I read).

I think you should do what feels right to you. If this is something you really want to try, present him with the facts and your feelings.

Feel free to message me if you want to talk. "

" I don't think I have the success story you are looking for but I love acupuncture. I feel relaxed and in the right place to get pregnant. Is is expensive but I think completely worth it! I have never been an alternative medicince person - always very conventional. I go to acupuncture weekly and have been taking chinese herbs. I feel really good. "
