Are any of you on prenatal vitamins? I am NOT pg, but am taking a woman's vitamin (w/folic acid). My sister has me freaked out that my potential child will have birth defects if I am not taking prenatal vitamins.

I started to take vitamins when I fist started ttc (4 years ago), but after awahile I stopped.
Any advice?

" I have been taking them for three years and we did concieve once, however I did m/c. As long as your doctor approves, it can only help. Folic acid in take can be as high as 5mg. "

" the only prenatal that works for me is the on w/iron from gnc. i have been on that one since i started the IF "experience". one thing i would recommend is start taking omega 3 pills. it has dha which is suppose to help brain and eye development for the baby when you do get pregnant. but the plus side is it is also lowers cholesterol. i am not sure how many people have high cholesterol, but before i got pregnant i had borderline high and my cholesterol has dropped like crazy since i have taken the omega 3. " I had a prescription for prenatal vitamins, but I got tired of renewing it all of the time. I've been buying the prenatal supplements from a company called Melaleuca. I asked if this was okay at my last appointment and they told me it was fine as long as they had the extra folic acid and iron. "

" i was taking a womens vitamin that i had gotten from the GNC store. one of the vitamins listed on the bottle were not good if you were pregnant or trying to get pregnant, so i stopped taking them and started a prenatal pill. "

" No your baby will not have birth defect but its very good to take it even before you are pregnant. Some women say since they took prenatals one year before they got pregoo they don't have any morning sickness. Good luck "
