I'm on celexa (well, the generic 'citalopram'). I know that this was given a category of C according to the FDA pregnancy ratings. Doing research online showed that women in their third trimester should not be on it because of the complications to the fetus (prolonged hospital stays, respiratory problems, need for feeding tubes, etc). However, I have taken myself off of celexa previously and I have not faired all that well (other methods require me to take multiple doses throughout the day and I'm forgetful). I'm wondering whether I should be taking it while I'm ttc or not. What do you all think? I figured whenever I did get pregnant I would stop...but I've been ttc for about 3 years now and I'm a little leary of stopping my use prematurely. Any suggestions/thoughts?

" I was on wellbutrin went I was going through my first ivf cycle last July. I was still on it throughout my 11 weeks of pregnancy, and then I miscarried. I was talking to my ob before that and he said that you have to weigh the risks and benefits. There are some risks to taking the meds, but there are risks with not taking them. I weaned myself off Wellbutrin for this next cycle and I'm doing very well, but you have to do what's best for you which in turn will be what's best for your baby. "

" I've been on antidepressants for years. I've only just started infertility testing a few months ago. As far as I know, the meds don't affect fertility, but some can be harmful to the fetus. As Wendy said, you just have to weigh the pros and cons of taking and not taking your meds and decide what's best for you. I figured once/if I get pregnant, I'd cross that bridge when I come to it. Until then, I plan to stay on my meds unless my RE suggests otherwise because I know how depressed and suicidal I get when I try to go off my meds. It's a difficult decision. "
