Just wondering what everyone thinks about taking antidepressants while TTC.
I'm afraid that if i don't take them then i'll never be balanced enough to get pregnant. on the other hand, i've heard antidepressants could potentially cause miscarriage or birth defects. i've noticed lots of depression in this group mainly as a result of infertility. is there anybody out there taking antidepressants too, even though you're TTC? Do others give you trouble about taking meds while TTC? i tried going without meds the first year we were TTC and it almost killed me. but now i'm so worried about what happens if i do get pregnant while taking meds. I've looked up all the research and there really isn't any great answer. So i just wondered what y'all think about it and if there's anyone else out there dealing with the same issues. I stopped taking mine as soon as I was TTC but I am finding it really hard to sope and I have contemplated going back to the doctors but I don't want it to interfere with any of my treatment. I think that some are OK to continue taking but you will have to discuss it with your doctor. Sorry I couldn't help much!

A close friend of mine was on them when she was ttcing and after she was pg, according to her her doc in the second tri (i think) weeded her off, she did become "unbalanced" went back on and honestly still isn't herself. But then I can't be sure how much she's self-medicating. I'm assuming that if you have anti prescribed then you're doctor should be able to tell you what the best course of action would be. I don't have this problem but I certainly see your concern, purhaps lowering dosage or changing the prescription and adding non-medicial therapy will keep you on track without the worry. But I know you have some options which is very good, just might be a little research.

My son Gavin was stillborn and my doctor put me on Zoloft---she said I could take it while I was ttc and while I was pregnant. However after losing Gavin I was way too scared to take the chance so I stopped after 1 month and that was 1 month before I got pregnant again. I know many women in the pregnancy community that are taking antidepressants while pregnant. Good luck!

I have been on Effexxor while trying to conceive and I am 6.5 months pregnant. My Psychiatrist said the impact of getting off of them would be worse than the withdrawal the baby may have. I think it has kept me mostly sane thru IF and the ups and downs I have had in pregnancy. I know there are some drugs they definitely don't want you to take, but to keep ya sane, I think it is worth it.

Yeah, I had the same concern. I had stopped taking the celexa for the 5-HTP. That is a precursor to serotonin. It worked just fine, but I switched and started buying it from another company (because the price) and the new company didn't provide them in the same form and I could never remember to take them on time. So, now I'm back on the celexa (that's just one pill a day-so it works perfectly for my ever-so-forgetful brain).

I take zoloft and my docs said that it is okay to take while TTC and while pregnant. Since I have a history of depression, I am at risk of post partum depression, staying on the meds decreases the risk

My endocrinologist said that while TTC zoloft is fine and even into the 1st trimester. That if/when I get pregnant we'll re-evaluate. However, my sister was on Zoloft when she found out she was pregnant and they advised her to stop taking it. She's had a very healthy pregnancy so I'm not sure how it affects TTC...

i had the same concerns, but talk to your doc about it. they may decide that it would be more harmful if you weren't on them than if you were. pregnancy is a tricky thing the baby not only needs to be healthy and well, but the mom too.

I was concerned about that too, but my doc said it was safe to take effexor xr. It works wonderfully and isnt linked to any problems with TTC or pregnancy.
