Bloodwork and an ultrasound along with "certain" symptoms. The main way they know that you have PCOS is if they see cysts inside your ovaries on the ultra sound. I hope you don't have it. Good luck!

a transavaginal ultrasound will confirm the "string of pearls" appearance to the ovaries---cysts around the edge.
Testosterone blood test will indicate increased levels. LH will be high in relation to FSH regardless of time of test. Elevated glucose is also a possibility. Symptoms--absent or irregular periods, acne, weight gain, male patterned hair growth, depression just to name a few. I highly recommend seeing an endocronologist as they are OFTEN more versed in PCOS than a GYN.

i completely agree with jakeswife. my endocrinologist is much more knowledgable and proactive in treating my pcos than my gyn and gp were.
also, the same symptoms as described. the biggest "tell all" is the bloodwork in diagnosing pcos. though there is no actual "test" to diagnose pcos. good luck hun!

If you're researching PCOS at all on the internet it's also important to realize that you may only have a couple of the symptoms. For example I have insulin resistance and anovulation but non of the others - not even the cysts. It seems like kind of a 'catch all' diagnosis for ovulation issues. Good luck!
