I just started menopur last night and I was wondering what is it for? I am already taking gonal-f and lupron. I am working with a new RE and he has change all of my medications. I have had great success with these two medications that I don't understand why he is adding more. It just seems like I am spending more and more money for drugs that I can't keep up with what they are for.....I also have two pills to start but I don't know when or what they are called....well thanks for the help with the menopur!

" MENOPUR® is a highly purified preparation of naturally derived gonadotropins, called hMG. MENOPUR® contains equal amounts (75 IUs) of 2 kinds of hormonal activity: follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which helps stimulate egg production; and luteinizing hormone (LH), which helps the eggs mature and release (ovulate). MENOPUR® helps stimulate eggs to mature in women whose ovaries are basically healthy but are unable to develop eggs. It is not used for women who suffer from ovarian failure. "

" With my last IVF I used gonal-f and menopur to stimulate before the retrieval. This was a successful cycle and I am 19 weeks pregnant. The 1st time I only used gonal-f and it failed. My RE wanted to change the drug protocol because I have unexplained infertility and it didn't make sense to do the same thing when it didn't work the 1st time. I know it is expensive, but I feel it is worth it!
Good Luck! "

" I'd like to know as well. I know that it's different from Follistim or Gonal-F in that it has LH in addition to FSH. I will be using it for my 1st IVF cycle (along with Follistim). My friend who did IVF at the same clinic a year ago did not use Menopur. I guess my RE recently added it to their basic IVF protocol. Not sure why? "
