Obviously it will go directly in your blood stream and is not meant to be, but I don't know how dangerous that is. I will google it and see what I find out. Did you do that??

Maybe...when my husband pulled out the needle I started bleeding quite a bit. A lot more than usual.

Did he pull back and check for blood before injecting? So far I haven't found much on the internet, but I will keep searching. I think I would have found something right away if it was dangerous so you probably have nothing to worry about.

My nurse didn't instruct us to pull back to check for blood. I have heard women here talk about it but I just decided to do it like my nurse told me. Hopefully it will be ok. Thanks for researching for me though!

I haven't been able to find a thing sorry. From now on he should just pull back a bit, if he sees blood then he is in a vein and you need to start over, if not you are clear. Good luck!

My nurse instructed me to pull back a little it too..just to see if there is any blood. I havnt started my PIO yet..but..that was the part I was nervous about. I may have to do some on my own..and I am sure it is hard trying to look in the mirror and plunge that needle in and then pull back on it to check for blood. I dont think it will hurt if you do hit a vein. I think you will be fine. Just check next time.

my nurse told us to insert the needle. Once it is in pull back a little, if there is blood your in a vein. If you have blood pull the needle out and apply direct pressure for a few minutes. Change the needle and try again. I'm not sure what happens if you are in a vein.

I was also instructed to pull back and check for blood. I was told if you see blood to take it out, put on a fresh needle and try again. My RE nurse says it very rarely happens but you must do it to make sure you didn't hit a blood vessel. She didn't tell me what happens if you do it anyway though.

I don't know if it would be dangerous, but the absorption of a drug is different if given by injection versus IV. So in that case, you would be getting more. You only have to draw back if it is an IM injection, not for SQ.

I hit my vein a few times without any side effects. If you are new to giving yourself IM shots, I recommend drawing a circle on your each side of your bumm kind of like a target. My RE drew the first ones and then I updated them every few days until my DH got the hang of exactly where to hit me.
Occassionaly he would miss a litte and that is when he hit a vein.
