According to my RE she is now named that protocol after me and my DH, I’m now in my 6 week! I spent this summer on Lupron to get my Endo under control, I also did Chinese herbs along with it, a little eastern medicine meets western medicine. We did a fresh cycle after the 3 months and Assisted Hatching but we’re all convinced that what we did over the summer put me in a place physically to actually get pregnant.
The drug, you’ll find with research gets a lot of press, good and bad. Side effects differ from person to person, I have been on it twice now and the first time was totally different then this last time, maybe that has something to do with the fact that with the IF treatments my body has gotten used to the “hormone rollercoaster” and so they didn’t “hit” so hard, for me. It helps to keep in mind that with this and any of these drugs really what they are doing, then I think the side effects kind make sense and that makes it easier for me to deal with. You can gain weight, but if you modify your lifestyle a bit, make sure you’re getting active you should be able to control that. I actually lost weight this summer, but then that was part of the goal, after 2 cycles of IVF I had put on some weight, so I treated this summer as a break, time to get back to me, I exercised, took yucky herbs, got messages and chiropractic work, watched what I was eating, etc. Biggest side effects for me this time were it was hard to keep up the energy, I needed cat naps, and hot flashes weren’t terrible but where omnipresent. What is does; Endo works like you regular Endometrial lining, it has its own cycle, it sheds and all but trapped inside the body has no were to go so bands together cause adhesions and cysts. The theory is if you shut down the reproductive system so that you’re not ovulating and there for not having a menses, then neither is the Endo and with time the hope is it calms the Endo, starving it off and even maybe shrinking it, giving you a chance to heal the damage it’s done. It doesn’t go away but it gets “malnourished” and doesn’t have the energy to cause trouble. This of course is “wicked layman” terms but I hope it helps.
