As has been demonstrated in some of the parenting communities, there is clearly much debate associated with vaccinations.

Would love to hear some viewpoints?

Thanks,

JFS

" Honestly, I am scared to death about some of it. Being a first time mom I want (well everyone does) to do what is best for my daughter, and I will get all her vaccines as the doctor advises, but I do worry. They give so much more than I ever remember and our babies are soooo small. I do not mind the light fever and crankiness that comes with the shots, I just worry about long term. "

" I have selectively vacinated my two children. We chose to wait until they were 12-16 months before beginning the immunizations and then only did one vacination at a time although many had to be done in triple form. We also put them in order of importance according to our research.
Our biggest problem is the chicken pox vaccination. Our daughter will enter school next year, and I refuse to get her vaccinated for something harmless now, with little research as to long term side effects. Twenty years from now it could wear off and chicken pox becomes deadly! "

" All I can say to the new mom's in here is it's YOUR child. Those forms you sign before the shots are "informed consent" forms. So inform yourselves, do some research. Learn the REAL risks of reaction vs odds of infection followed by complication. Many of them may be worth putting off as long as possible. If you're a stay home mom, some may be avoidable all together.
I recommend "what your doctor may NOT tell you about children's vaccinations" by stephanie cave. It's the most objective book I've found outlining what the dissases are, odds of getting them, who's at risk, possible complications plus the history of each vaccination and odds of complications. Great pro's and con's but the author never tells you what to do. "

" I have pet peeves about immunization, and how they are administered. I have 6 grown children between 18 and 28. I got most of my children's immunizations later than recommended. I had serious concerns about them, but didn't know what I could do at the time. I read a report about immunizations I believe it was in Japan. They discontinued immunization of infants for a period of about a year. During that year the incidence of SIDS dropped to zero. It was so long ago, I have no idea where to find the report or how to verify it. I have a brother-in-law who never had any immunizations until he travelled overseas. He reported bad reactions to them, and was a very healthy child. My children were mostly about a year or 2 behind the normal schedule, and only had minor reactions, but I've had one granddaughter who had the severe high pitched screaming that is referred to in one of the warnings, and it only happened after immunizations, and it was more than just an owie scream it lasted for days. My daughter was forced to repeat it time after time becuase she was divorced and the father had more control than he should have. I have another granddaughter who ended up in the intensive care unit after she had gone to the doctor for being sick and the idiots gave her immunizations while she was there. Neither one of these children's bad reactions was reported to anyone, so I know the statistics have to be severely flawed. My son with Cystic Fibrosis also had a bad reaction to the flu shot 2 years ago. He had been sick, and when he went in for a follow-up my husband trusted them and they gave Benjamin the shot. He nearly died from it. He was too sick to recieve an immunization. Of course that wasn't reported either. Every time I've had the flu shot I've gotten sick the next day. Now I know the "experts" say that you can't get the flu from the shot, but I'd rather take my chances on the flu than get that shot and know for sure I'm getting as sick as I've ever been for 3 days minimum. Benjamin has had the flu shot every year except one since it came out, and I'm glad he's only had a really bad reaction once, but now I wonder if he's developed a sensitivity to it that he didn't have before. Last year he did a lot better than the year before, and last year he didn't get the shot. I don't know what I'm going to do he has an appointment this week, and I have to face the nurse and stand between her and my son and forbid her from giving him the shot. He's been quite ill this week. "

" I will never get my children vaccinated again. my son passed away two and a half days after his vaccinations at 10 weeks old. I have done research on the DPT shot and it can/does cause death. It is a chance you take, I only wish i had known this before he got vaccinated. I have spoken with a lawyer who has given me a point of contact with an expert witness who used to work for the national vaccine association, and is not against vaccinations because of the long term harm and death they can cause to infants and toddlers. I am just sharing my info I have found out about when it was too late. Many people get their babies vaccinated and have no problems, it's just not something I am willing to risk again. "

" I feel so very sorry for those people who have lost loved ones, however, while it can never be ruled out that the vaccine were not the cause of death, the probability it was the vaccine is around 1 in 5 billion. The benefits of vaccination strongly out weigh the negative aspects. Unfortunately you never hear anything "good" about vaccines because the good vaccines prevent disease. You would never know whether you came into contact with a disease you were vaccinated against, so there is nothing to report. My grandmother had polio when she was young, and she suffered her entire life from it. Small pox has killed millions of people before vaccination began. It is critical that parents do their own research when informing themselves about vaccines, however, this needs to be done in a non-bias fashion. "

" The bennifets outway the negative to you because you have not lost a child. They have a national vaccination compensation fund set up. So they must have some proven cases to have set that up so you cant sue the hospital for it. and smallpox and other things can be easily treated with todays technology and medical advances, which could not have been done before the vaccinations came to be. I agree parents should individually do their own research. Many children such as myself are vaccinated daily and have no problems, but it is not worth the risk to me. Expecially when I have heard from a pediatritian there are two vaccinations that cause irregular breathing patterns...I mean come on. SIDS babies stop breathing, whose to say those babies did not stop breathing from the vaccinations, and were labeled as SIDS. Because Heaven forbid they be honest, then no one would get their children vaccinated. Which they are afraid would lead to a huge outbreak of disease. "

" I also lost my 10 1/2 week old son to SIDS only 4 days after his 2 mth vaccinations. I just can not believe the number of Sids cases that have occurred with in 2 weeks of a babies vaccinations. I also think that these vaccinations are not necessarily needed as early on as they are adminstered. I know if I do have another child I will definitly wait until my child is older to receive his or her vaccinations. "
