Is any one here an adult with Hypotonia? I am 23 years old now, my mom found out when I was 3 months old.

We don't know why I have Hypotonia, nothing like that runs in my famliy. Dyslexia runs in my famliy, I and a lot of my cousins have Dyslexia.

What I am worried about is, if I have kids will they have Hypotonia? Can I have kids, will by back let me?

If any one knows more about this please leave me know. I spoke to my doc. but he does not know much about Hypotonia.

" I am not an aduly with hypotonia, but have a son who is 2 with hypotonia. We found out just before he turned 18 months. Tyler(my son) doesn't have a diagnosis, they don't know what caused the hypotonia. Hypotonia is a condition, not a disease. It is usually caused by big things like Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism. About 10 percent of people with hypotonia never get a diagnosis as to what caused it. When we went to his neurologist last month I asked him how likely it would be that we would have another child with hypotonia (not that we wouldn't have another if he or she would have hypotonia, of course we would) but it is nice to be prepared. He told me that because we couldn't find the cause (some other disease) there is no way to tell. He said some couples have one kid with hypotonia and all the others don't have it and he also has seen couples in which every kid they have has it. Chances are you will get the same answer if you don't know what caused the hypotonia. At least you will be prepared, you'll know what to look for and can get your child into an early intervention program REALLY early. And, there's the possibility you may never have to deal with it at all. I totally don't think you should let it stop you from having children. I'm sure your Mom couldn't imagine life without you as I cannot imagine life without my sweet Tyler. "

" If I were to have kids I don't want them to go through what I did. When I was in school my PE teach thought she was going to wip my into shape. I only have Hypotonia, I look normal, that in itself can be hard. I fought with my teach, my mom fought with her too.

I was never like the other kids. Still I get hurt and I normally don't know why. People ask how, I don't know I wish I did that way I would at least have a good reason. "
