Yes, hypothyroidism can cause fatigue and extreme tiredness- among a host of other symptoms. The doctor is trying to get your level up where it needs to be- then you will feel better.

Wow! I did not know if could hit at your age. I do not know how to deal with the fatigue as well. What has work in the past is exercise and keep a diet. Sometime though it is too hard to go to the gym but most push my self. Sometime it is the medicine. I take synthroid, but my mom has taken levothyroxine the generic and has not worked. I try really hard to stay up, but sometime my system just does not do. My two daughters and wife are very understanding. But I am a morning person and try to do most things in the morning because after 5pm can't do much stressful work. I was diagnosed back in 2003 but I think it had been longer. If you can take a nap- 45 minutes after work makes you feel better, however, do not stay sleeping too long during the day. Hope you feel better and good luck.

Hi Jenn, 6 year post rai, on 150 mcg synthroid. I still get tired but feel much better than before rai. Talk to you dr about putting you on synthroid. I took levo for 2 months when I had no insurance since walmart only charges 4 bucks for it, and I felt horrible the whole time I was on it took about a month back on synthroid to start feeling better again. Have co worker on levo and she is tired all the time too, she is going to talk to her dr about switching to synthroid. Also watch what you eat, iodine can affect your levels too, too much and you can go hyper until its out of your system. Keep a food diary and read labels for iodine, watch seafood closely, and see if you see a pattern in what you eat as to how you feel. Like if you have seafood one day see how you feel the next day and write it down. I don't suggest doing this but I love seafood, if I know I am going to have seafood for supper I don't take my synthroid that morning, or if its a last minute decision I don't take it the next day. But I limit myself to seafood once a month or every other month. Talk to your dr about foods that might affect your thyroid and if he looks at you like your crazy google foods with iodine. This is 6 years of trial and error and dr's not listening to my symptoms and only looking at my levels. You know your body better than your dr's do, if it don't feel right and your dr doesnt listen and only says well your levels are this you should try to get him to find out why you are feeling the way you do when your symptoms don't match your levels and if he doesn't, find another dr until you find one who will listen to the symptoms not just the levels. Good luck
