My beloved 72 year old sister was dx with hypothyroid The Dr gave her a script for .50 mcg of Levoxyl. However they goofed and gave her 150mcg instead. She took this for three months. Now she has massive pain in all of her nerve endings and believe it or not chronic bladder infection that she has only had once in 30 or more years before this! She has an appointment with an Endo in August but Im afraid she won't last until then please I would love some advise.
Thank you ...Lynda

" Has she had her thyroid levels drawn? Is a doctor fixing this? Hyperthyroidism from too much medication can be very dangerous. She definitely NOT WAIT until August. "

" they discovered this by drawing her thyroid and it was so doggone high they told her to stop taking the whole .50mcg and cut them in half. This is when she told the Dr. that she was taking 150mcg and they said to come right in. But they only took her off thyroid for two weeks and put her on high dose of steriods . These have given her a false sense of feeling better because now she is not taking it (3 days) and she is in a lot of pain again. "

" Keep going back to the doctor until they fix the problems. Keep drawing blood for correct thyroid levels. This is dangerous. The thyroid gland controls all the other glands in the body. That is how important it is.
A malfunctioining thyroid can cause all kinds of things to go wrong and I don't think the answer is more drugs to controlt he things that have gone wrong.
What a dodo doctor. "

" from what I have resd- they were probably using the high dose steroids to treat or prevent adrenal crisis. I would think they should give more than 3 days worth, then wean off slowly. I would ask about why the steroids were given, and if more are needed. Not something I would be messing around with or waiting on. "
