I have a multinodular goiter

I'm not sure exactly what that means. I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 weeks ago and had a scan, now this. The doctor says he wants me to have a radioactive iodine uptake test and I have to wait 30 days first because I had already started the synthroid. Any ideas on what I can expect? I am way nervous and am going to be on pins and needles for a month. Any insight is appreciated!

" I have a multinodular goiter too. I also have one big nodule in there too that they can't figure out. The reuptake will probably let you know if you have Hashimotos. I have Hashis, just means your immune system isn't that fond of your thyroid. I was scared but it is just to see how your thyroid is functioning. The important thing is that they know something is going on and get it under control - thyroid disease is pretty common, just this week i found out a co-worker has is and is on synthroid and another's mom had hers out when he was a kid. Good luck! "

" I was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter a few years ago but the doctor did not give me a radioactive iodine uptake test. I am on levoxyl 50 mcg daily and have been since being diagnosed. The goiter has not decreased in size but it also has not increased so am glad of that. "

" thanks. I am really worried about cancer because I lost my sister to it. I've done a little research and found that the chances are small so hopefully I am worrying for nothing and probably making my hair fall out faster! "

" The chances of it being is cancer is slim, the more nodules the less chance of it being cancer, that is what I was told, I have one too, I had a fine needle biopsy, to see if I had cancer and it came back non cancerous, right now my doc is not giving me anything, they are just watching and waiting I go back some time in june or july to see if it has grown, best of luck to you "
