Was diagnosed 5 months ago, couldnt take synthroid or generics too many side effects. Armour was great no side effects at all.
Started TSH 4.5. Doctor says way too low. After 1 month of60mgs armour went up to 1.6 felt really good, no pain whatsoever, 1 month later down to .26 too high, the levels are to be 3.0 - .28, feel bad, fluish, aches and pains, DR gave up on me already instead of adjusting meds. He wants me to go see endocranologist, I have no insurance and first visit is $400.00. Can someone explain to me why I cant lower the dosage to 30mgs a day? Maybe it will go back up to 1 where I felt great. He was going to try 60mgs everyday except on Sundays only 30mgs. When I told him I am in pain everyday he gave up on me. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I am ready to stop all together and not care anymore what happens. Posted on 05/08/08, 11:05 am |

Yikes that stinks about the visit costing $400. I'd start saving my pennies because your doc doesn't seem to care too much. It stinks when they don;t listen!

I would switch doctors ask around and see who has a caring doctor in your. You might not need to go to a spacialist if you see a good regular doc.
Good luck!!!!!!! Kathy California

Boy, I forget how lucky I am to have real good insurance and a real good endo. No, don't change your meds. Docs need to know that what they suggested is working or not. but then, It would help if they paid attention to what you have to say. Get a second opionion. The biggest problem is that it takes a test every 3 months or so to get things together. Then once it's together, You need to be tested every six months or so.
Need a little more advice, I would be more than happy to talk with you. To listen to what needs to be said. I have been hypo for about 20 years. I have heard it all. I have even experimented with the "Off the drugs" moments. It really isn't that good for you. But the doc visits are expensive if you don't have insurance. Try talking to your doc about payments. Any good doc should be willing to work with you. If not, move on. You need someone who listen because you know your body better than anyone else. You know what's going on inside and they don't. Let them know everything that's going on, too. Everything. Because you don't know what might apply and what won't. Let me know what's going on too, because I really do care. MaryT

I wanted to reply because I have been hypo for 7 years, and recently had levels way higher than I have ever had them before. If you don't have good insurance, try some more natural ways to help yourself. It may be less expensive. I don't know what to suggest as to what natural remedies, but others who may have done this can help. Try posting natural remedies question and see what happens. I hope you feel better soon. My thyroid got so out of whack I was sleeing almost 18 hours a day! My deperession and weight problems picked back up. I am bulemic and anorexic and have been since I was a teen, and I believe I have had thyroid problems since then, just not diagnosed till post baby #2. I wish I could be more helpful!

Don't wait too long to get some help. I saw a guy who had been misdiagnosed and he almost died. I really don't want to scare you or anyone else. I just want you all to know that you could be in danger.

Thankyou all for all the information, I appreciate it so much to be able to talk to people about this.
I did go to another Dr. that handles thyroid and she lowered my dosage to 30mg (.5 grams) and I feel alot better now. She also did a whole new blood workup and everything came out fine. Now I just have to go have another thyroid test in a couple of weeks to make sure the 30mg is keeping it in the 1.0 area. Thanks again the people here are great.
