ok here goes - tsh is regulated by the pituitary along with other endocrine functions which are linked back to the functioning of the hypothalamus - has anyone with hypothyroidism been diagnosed with hypopituitarism or a hypothalamus problem or other endocrine problems such as the mention of adrenal fatigue - i have too many symptoms that dont fit and i have traced back to several incidents a) i have had alot of head injuries b) i have had major overdoses utilizing thyroxine including one in jan 93 where i took 100 of the 200mcg strength thyroxine tablets along with several hundred other scripted pills - it put me in a coma on life support and i literally had to have blood replaced to detoxify my body as quickly as possible - about 6 mos after i recovered from that incident i had a severe fall from a horse knocking myself unconscious for 10-20 min followed by about 10 min of intermittant unconsciousness - things seem to worsen after the horse fall - about 2 yrs ago i had another od on thyroxine that affected my QT of my heart and had to have that tested for sometimes afterward - i have major problems controlling my body temp esp overheating - something as simple as walking to the car can put me soaked in sweat or i sweat severely and am hot to the touch and feel cold - drs keep pawning everything off on my thyroxine levels and other meds but none of my other meds have sweating so profusely as a side effect - so has anyone had their hypothyroidism as a factor going back to their pituitary or hypothalamus - i know a weird question but just when i think all my symptoms fit they dont - and i guess like most ppl on here just tired of being tired adn run down all the time - would be interested to hear from anyone
thanks carolyn

" I have become perimenopausal since being diagnosed as hypothyroid. That seems to make me heat intolerant; no hot flashes, but I am miserable in hot weather. Also, back when I was on birth control(I took Ortho tri-cyclen), I had trouble with hyper symptoms when my estrogen levels interfered with my thyroid supplementation. That was the reason I went off the BC.
The Thyroid regulates your metabolism, so there is no reason why it could not mess up your temperature regulation. Also, you might want to check out Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as part of your problem. I have it, as well, and there are temperature regulation problems with it, too. "

" thanks lynne - i was wondering because i realize something my gp said the other day all my 3 test levels had dropped significantly since aug last yr i.e. my TSh T3 T4 which makes no sense - if my T4 drops my pituitary should put out more TSH and it should be raised not dropping as well - think i will go back and see him and actually look at the test results as i didnt get a copy this time .. i never had any probs on the 'pill' and was checked last yr for estrogen levels etc re being perimenopausal and was told things were normal - so just dont understand it - if you saw how badly i sweat - heat intolerance should come with hyper not hypo thyroidism is my understanding but i use to live in a hotter region even when i was first diagnosed and had no problems - something just doesnt seem right anymore with my body and i cant pinpt it hence am looking at 'above' just the thyroid itself and an overview of the endocrine system itself - hope that makes sense :-) cheers carolyn "

" Keep trusting your own instincts; they will guide you through this. If this Dr. does not give you a satisfactory answer, find one who will. If you think there is something else wrong, then there is. Don;t let them say it is all in your head, or some such. trust yourself. "

" I have a lot of problems with overheating as well and I'm hypo. I get very irritable too when I get hot. I just want cold air blowing on me all the time....it's crazy! I eat ice constantly and that seems to help a bit. I wish you luck! "
