I have been taking synthroid for 3 months. Im at the lower end of normal. Ive been having some joint pain and fatigue. My doctor now wants me to Lexapro for the seratonin? But, Im not depressed and I dont have anxiety. Has anyone heard of this? Im scared I will gain weight as my metabolism is already low due to the hypothyroidism.

" hi... i was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and was put on Synthroid. Having clinical depression, i've taken several antidepressants for years, the latest one being Lexapro. I've never had any weight gain problems with Lexapro. For the most part, all of the seratonin reuptake meds can help you lose weight... for me, i've not seen any weight gain nor loss but i can say that Lexapro is a the most effective antidepressant i've ever taken .. hope this helps... " I take Armour thyroid and Lexapro. Lexapro has been pretty good to me and I've been on a few antidepressants including Prozac, Paxil, and Wellbutrin. Prozac was good too but Lexapro has been really easy as far as side effects goes. I think the combination of taking your thyroid and the extra help of an SSRI can only help, but every person's different. "
