For about 2 years i have felt terrible. I've piled weight on, i'm on antibiotics all the time for infections, my face is swollen and puffy as is the underside of my chin and i am exhausted. I
wake up in the morning and i am so tired it feels like even my breathing is slow. I have just been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid but i dont understand. My T4 is too low but TSH isnt really high. The doc said i needed to start thyroxine slowly so hes only put me on 25mg for the first 6 weeks. How long will it take for me to see a difference?

" Becky - It may take a year...honestly...that might sound bad, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I was really not well until this past year...and I was diagnosed 18 years ago when I was 12. I'm 31 and I finally reached the place where I need to be in terms of wellness. I recommend some self study - there is a great book called the Thyroid Solution that answered all my questions and had a lot of case studies that helped me realize that I wasn't crazy or imagining things - this is a subtle and serious thing that affects everything and there are so many people affected. Made me feel better to know that I wasn't alone and to read this book, written from the physicians point of view. Just keep at it, even taking your synthroid every day sometimes seems annoying and menial, but it is all you need to do to get on the track to being back to yourself. "
