Hi Mozart, I love schooling my kids.I am sure anyone can do this. The only money I spend is on ink for my printer and papers, books I get free from friends, church or visit the local library.

I did some reasearch recently and found a place on line called the "Texas Acadmey" that will set you up with a grades worth of cirriculum including books and workbooks for about $900 and even offers some kind of graduation service. They say its self paced so as you complete each grade and they review the testing you can go on to the next at your own pace. If I homeschool I think that this is the way I am going to go.

You can spend nothing or everything! It depends on how you do it.
We use the library a lot, but I do pay fines and hold fees. We also belong to a couple of museums and that is really worth it. I buy some supplies such as workbooks and printer paper and ink. There are ways to reduce that - lots of homeschool groups have swaps or giveaways, or people sell things online. And music lessons and instruments are a big part of our expense. You also want to go to some plays and concerts. But it does not have to be expensive, and it can be nearly free.

Local homeschool conventions sell books and such for a decent price, and they are often held at churches.
look to see if there is a homeschool group in your area. My mum is still on the email list even though both her kids are in college. It helps if you have stuff to give away or sell, and I got much of my collage books this way, from others who have taken the class and are done with the books.
Library is a great place. Half.com is good aswell.

I go through a Christian homeschool program and I pay $200 a month for all three of my kids. That includes all of their books for the year. I also have a membership to www.enchantedlearning.com that is a great site for teaching.

I agree with Thriver. It depends on what you want to spend. I used to be on a tighter budget so I got a lot of stuff on ebay and used book sales. This year, for my son, I will spend a lot more on DVDs and texts. My daughter gets a lot of free classes from our state.

Home schooling can be as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be. I successfully home schooled most years on a library card and a few work books. Often time I would ditch the work books and make up my own lessons or units. I have done this for 11 years and have a son at a major university and a daughter who is about ready to graduate. It is the best thing I ever done

I get the math and language programs that cost 120.00 for both for LA and the math is around 100.00 each so it does cost but the payoff is worth it i teach the science and social parts of the school by getting them to plant a garden and watch it grow, they also do alot of volunteer work for the elderly in our area as well they do lots of writing and reading they also study things as they are interested in them, the oldest has studied Mexican money and the youngets reasearches every movie and tv show she sees on tv all about the actors/actresses and such.

For preschool you can find free curriculums online if you look. A great one is
www.abcjesuslovesme.com I feel like it is the easiest to navigate and isn't overwhelming for child and parent!
