Homelessness is a crime????

It seems that localities, especially here in florida have been enacting laws and ordinances banning homelessness. Where is their compassion and common sense? Just because you have laws keeping homeless people from certain areas does not make the problem go away. It just moves it to another location. Is it out of site, out of mind syndrome that these poloticians are mandating? If they don't have to see it, they don't have to deal with it??

" Too many wealthy people get angry and tired of ,what? They don,t tell any one else.If there is aproblem in a certain area ,why don,t they INform the general public? How do you make a law that allows people to sit in a park as long as they are not past curfew. We have the right to go to church, why can,t we gather in a park during day light hours? "

" If homelesness were a real crime, then nearly 100,000 people in Los Angeles alone (including children) would be behind bars! I don't know about the rest of the US, but I know that LA is the #1 city for the homeless. "

" ok really... you have to look at it from the average citizen's stand point. if you owned property and had children, would you want a group of homeless people sleeping close to where your family was? you woulnd't. i lived in a shelter and we had a few women with mental illness issues. i kept my child very close to me at all times. we always are talking about how many homeless people have mental illness issues and cannot get medical help. well... people do not want their families at risk and they don't understand that most mentally ill people are not dangerous. that is not their fault. they are doing what you or i would do - they are trying to keep their neighborhoods safe. now where things are wrong is that the politicians need to address where to put the homeless people. how do we as a society reach out and help this terrible problem in our nation? it's affecting more and more and now we're in recession and it's going to be an even huger problem... i don't know what the answer is. i just know that we cannot fault the average american citizen for wanting to feel their neighborhoods are safe for their children to play in. " I think I have now heard it all - Homelessness a crime? Wonderful, and about time too. Okay, Government, local or national...now you have made it a crime I presume you intend to build enough "affordable" houses/apartments to house all these homeless people?

Any Civilized society who have even one person who is unintentionally homeless and does little or nothing to alleviate the problem, should be ashamed of themselves.

"ok really... you have to look at it from the average citizen's stand point. if you owned property and had children, would you want a group of homeless people sleeping close to where your family was? you woulnd't."

I consider myself the "average citizen" and I find this statement worrying. I sincerly hope that it will never be made by someone living in the UK as it would show an apauling lack of understanding of homelessness in this country as well as compasion.

Whilst I understand your concern for your child sannysoo, and presume you sadly have some experience of homeslessness yourself...please don't tar Mr/Mrs Adverage Citizen with the same brush. For the past 18 years I, Mrs Adverage Citizen have housed, in my own home as well as profesionaly, those who have found themselves homeless through no fault of their own.

Some have only stayed with me for a few weeks, most for a matter of several months and just two for over two years. Many had "mental health issues"...this makes them far more vulnerable and in need of our help. I have a saying....... There for the Grace of God go I. "
