people's ignorant comments on why you should put your child in school? I'm beginning to feel like people just simply don't trust my ability to make decisions for my kids. There are so many positive things about homeschooling...I don't get why people are so negative...VERY frustrating...

" I go through seasons with these attitudes from others. I try to just end the conversations quickly because folks just seem to have their misinformed opinions set and do not want to hear the positives of homeschooling. It is very frustrating. I'm glad you're seeking positive feedback from other homeschoolers. "

" I blow them off exactly for the reason you stated...Ignorance. If they persist, I tell them the pros of homeschooling and that my child deserves better then a public school. They quickly walk away because they are usually the type who just want to put someone down for being an individual Instead of going with the flow, like they have chosen. I'm very glad you've chosen to home school. Keep your chin up, don't let them make you feel bad. I know It's difficult at times but the rewards are great.
Hugs of support for you. "

" I know this may seem simplistic, but it is what I do.

Nothing.

I ignore them. I do not answer to them, I answer to my kids. But then, I'm very fortunate to have a very supportive father, who is basically the only family member I care to talk to anymore. Everyone else can either be supportive or shut up.

Or keep on jabbering, they are the only ones that are hearing it.

If I have any response at all it is simply, "Do your research before you talk to me." "

" This is what I was afraid of happening to me if I home school my daughter. I know not that many people at all that would understand the concept. I get fed up with other people being bossy and I get very upset, but I think it'll be okay. Maybe I can figure out how to make them understand. Maybe. "

" I was homeschooled all through growing up until I went to public highschool. I graduated from a public highschool in just three years and I'm 17. People are ignorant and therefore don't really care. They pick a side and feel very strongly because they don't understand all the sides. Police used to stop me in the mall and ask why I wasn't in school and I told them because I was taking a class on economics and doing a project on currency at the shopping center. My mom would always tell them "because public school is biased and corrupt and my kids are growing up to be free-thinking adults without the crappy influence of other ignorant people". We ignored alot of the talk and just did what we wanted. It's best to not care if possible. Letting it get to you is hard and makes you doubt yourself and your choice. Public indoctrination centers are not for everyone, lol. "

" People are defending their decision not to homeschool more than your decision to homeschool.

I feel this is true for most anything. Even if what they chose is not the best for their child, they feel better that others are doing it too. Then, they don't feel as bad. "

" Simply put, people are used to the "norm" be it good bad or otherwise. My daughter attended public school for 5 years of her academic year. I decided to homeschool last year after the bullying wasn't addressed, and issues were being presented to a 10 year old that should not be. (language used by other students, promiscuity amongst 10 year olds)

I was a teacher in a public school system for 6 years and this was the hardest decision I ever made. I was terrified I wouldn't do it right. Guess what, I'm doing it better than they ever could.

Ironically, I was asked the other day why I won't let her return, she is missing all the socialization. HUH? Socialization is being picked on every day by a bunch of social inept children who have no ability to think for themselves. No thank you!

I will say it loud, and say it proud...I homeschool! I do it because public education is not for everyone, nor is it for children who are not born with the right last name.

Just my thoughts "
