" i don't think your levels are that high. Not sure that a normal cholesterol level is 125. I doubt many people could have a level that low. There is a correlation between all the number like the LDL, HDL, TRiglycerides and total cholesterol. They seem to start with watching diet and exercise. For me , that hasn't worked. I started on a low level of choles. lowering meds but the numbers went up. Just increased the dosage.
Doctors don't take the time to discuss problems with patients anymore. If you watch your diet, eat low fat and low in choles. foods and excercise, and the levels are considered still high, genetics have a huge part in that. If your parents had high choles. there is a huge chance your numbers will be high even though you watch diet . In my case, this seems to be the issue.
Not sure about smoking having anything to do with high choles. but smoking not good for anyway, so try to quit. I used to smoke over three packs a day and have quit smoking over 31 years ago.
In your situation, i wouldn't worry too much about you choles. numbers but continue to watch your diet and have another choles. test in a few months. If you are really concerned, ask the doctor for choles. lowering meds to try. "

" I was told by my doctor that anything below 200 is good. My cholesterol last check was almost 300. He wanted me to do the medication thing but I wouldn't. Did try the low fat diet and it had gone down but I went off of it and back up it went. I do know some people make extra cholesterol no matter what they do. It runs in the family also. With my low fat diet I'm allowed only 4 grams of fat a day. Your cholesterol doesn't really seem that high but maybe just a little change in your diet. Oatmeal (the kind you cook not instant) is good for bringing cholesterol down. There is the all natural cholesterol/off pill you buy in the stores and I've read where that helps. I did find in the beginning it was hard not being able to eat "real" sweets but I found fluff has no fat in it at all so I pretty much turned into a marshmallow that first month. lol I did lose 16 pounds in 3 months so it did help with the weight. I've gained 70 pounds over the years from pills. Ugh. :-( Not a good thing and not sure I can drop any weight with the pill I'm on now but will keep plugging along. Good luck with it all. I have read where smoking can increase your cholesterol too. "
