" I can't remember were I saw it but someone mentioned temporary disiability while on treatment. Find a SSD Advocate in your area and they will let you no if that is and option and the possibilities of getting it. They won't charge for the info either. Good luck. "

" I wouldn't think so, a person has to be very sick in order to qualify, and have been seing a doctor for a specific reason for years.

Did you have a choice in the matter, do treatment or not?

What was your biopsy results, were they that bad, that you needed right away to do tx.

Or like what Suzy asked, doesn't you job have somekind of insurance?

I've seen people on their dying bed, and not qualify for SSD.

So I doubt very much you would qualify.

Your not working at this time, your wife??

Do you have insurance for the meds? Cause there are clinical trial base programs you could go on, they pay the meds and all.

But maybe you are capable of working, who knows, my husband worked all thru his tx.

I had Unemployement insurance, so it was easy for me to take a year off to do my journey.

So unless, your company has insurance, you gonna have to work, who knows you might not get the sides your anticipating right now.

Good luck "

" Listen Brad, here in Canada we have what they call Unemployment Insurance Benefits.

This is when you are working full time, and your doctor put you on sick leave, you get this benefit from the government.

It's 60% of your gross salary, if I'm not mistaken, a check is sent every 2 weeks.

It's like when a company lays off some employees, they give them a lay off slip to bring to the UIC right?

For sure you guys in the States have that, it's got to be, cause companies could just lay off people and rehire newbies at a smaller wage.

That's what I did, but you will need a sick leave slip from your doctor, covering a full year off, or if you only off for 6 months, then 6 months leave of absence.

Good luck, keep me posted on how it works in the States, will you.

" Most people I have known in that situation where they cannot work get disability from their jobs (most large companies include it with the health/life insurance benefit). If not, there is SSI, where you have to prove you absolutely cannot work. It is hard to get, I know, because my sister was disabled with Lyme disease and had to get a lawyer to advocate and get it for her. It's not much money, but it helps to pay the bills while her husband works. A word of encouragement: I am self-employed and plan on working through tx. From what I hear, many people do. I attend a support group monthly and most of those in the group are working. Those who are not working have advanced liver disease. I hope this helps. Good luck and keep us posted. "

" I live in California. I have had to draw state disability on two occasions- both related to HEP C extrahepathic problems. There was no problem at all. Actually, because the disability was not taxed and I did not have the added expense of gas, buying food out, more work-related clothes. I came out almost even financially.
i think though, you must really be unable to work at the time you apply. SSI does not seem to me to be the answer as it is extremely hard to obtain. I would look into temporary state disability. when the time comes. "
