inconsitent side effects

maybe i just need to vent, but i'm finding the inconsistency of the side effects really difficult to deal with. my husb will take shot 18 (of 24) tonight and day to day, week to week, there is just no consistentcy with his sides. do others experience this? and this entire week has been terrible for him, body aches, head ache, exhaustion, crankiness, etc... his dr also told him at the beginning of tx that for some people it gets more and more difficult towards the end of tx. i know we are so close to being done and i am thankful but i am also curious about other people's experiences. thank for any responses.

" I am on week 38 with type 2b stage 3 liver failure and this is my third try with the TX.I failed two other tries and I failed because I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer the first time and the second the mood swings were awful. What he is going thru believe me can be NORMAL. If you can consider this any type of being normal. My side affects were horrible for the first 6 months and now the aches and pains are getting further apart. but when I think this will be cake, well I run a fever or something else. Remember it will and can get better. Hang in there. Someone is always here to talk. David "

" Never knowing from day to day how the sides will be? Sounds about right to me too.

As tx prgresses, the meds build up in your system so there are some sides that don't show up till later in tx, and the ones near the beginning, may get worse.

I am not sure why your dr said some people - it's pretty much the same pattern for all people. As time goes on, tx has a wearing effect.

Remind him to be careful as getting run down and with low red and whites, he can easily get sick and that may be what's happening to him now.

thankfully he has just a few more weeks to go and then he will be on his way to getting back to normal. "

" I did the tx almost 3 years ago now. The side effects got worse as time went on. They changed from week to week. Towards the end I was getting all sorts of infections and went a bit more loopy than usual. I was taken off the treatment with only 4 shots to go. I did suffer a vision impairment which I think was due to the interferon. I was concerned that the stopped treatment because i was going by the book. A nurse at the hospital told me that I probably only needed 3 months of it and that the drug companies kept you on it as long as possible.
I am still free of the bug almost 3 years later. It did take me a long time to recover from the repercussions of the side effects and I am still getting used to the vision problem. "

" The one thing about this disease is there is no pattern in how it works or how it affects everyone. Nobody has the exact sides at the exact time etc etc. My doc did say that by week 10 or so you should of had all the sides you are going to get. So he probably will not get any worse at this late date. The sides are different every day for all of us. Last week I was just so tired and ran a fever most every day. This week, I took my shot on Tuesday, and generally my Wednesdays are lost...don't get anything done, and never make dinner. Yesterday, I was up and about most of the day, and I made dinner. So for what ever reason unbeknownst to us-each day and or week is different. Make sure he is drinking his water! I can look at the days I was really down, and realize I did not get enough water in. We have to constantly drink to flush those toxins out so they do not amp up the sides. I am so glad he is so close to being done! You will have to share how he is doing once he is off tx. We all want to know what to expect at that point.
You are an awesome wife, and he is blessed to have you. YOu take care of yourself too!
God Bless,
5starr "

" I am finishing tx and I thank my partner every day for his calm responses (mostly) to my moods, fear and anxieties throughout. Some days were worse than others, so we try to focus on the good days. Is your guy taking an anti-D, that did help somewhat for me. Best to you and take care of your self too. Hugs "

" Your husband's experience is similar to mine. I never know from week to week how I'm going to feel. I felt great last week and went to work three days -- over the weekend I went to New York to see my grandson for his birthday and Mother's Day and wouldn't you know it he had a cold and now I've been down for the count all week with sore throat and cold sx. It seems like I can't plan anything because I'm not sure how I will feel. My biggest problem right now is tiredness/weakness. I'm so wiped I put a load of laundry in and have to sit down for 1/2 hour and rest. I'm on week 20 of 48 and I can't wait until winter. Then I'll be done and get my body back. I am undetected so I'm praying that I'll stay that way. It's what is keeping me going. You are wonderful for being so good to your husband. Sometimes I look at my husband and think about what I'm putting him through and he's doing it with such grace. I couldn't ask for a kinder person to go through this with. Hang it there!! You're almost at the end. God bless you. Peggy "

" i wrote this post almost 3 wks ago but could've written it again today, nothing has changed. it's weird, now saturdays, the day after his shot have been ok, but the rest of the week he suffers. we are resigned now to just get thru the next 4 wks (yes, only 4 more wks!!!). he will not even try to look for a job until tx is over and he's feeling better. it's been a tough road, i've done my best to support him but have to admit i've failed miserably many times. sometimes i've felt that if we don't end up divorced b/c of this it'll be a miracle. the stress of being on the tx and not having any income has taken a toll. as well as having 3 young kids who don't understand. but right now i do have hope. i know we have so much to be thankful for and all of you wonderful people are right up there on the list. believe me, this site has saved my sanity many times and kept me from venting to my husb, which i try really hard not to do. so thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone here! on a side note, this is scary but i find myself actually looking forward to fridays b/c it's one more shot down! shot 21 tomorrow!
