Here in Mendocino County, California - we addressed the Board of
Supervisors, and asked them to adopt a proclamation recognizing May 19th
as World Hepatitis Awareness Day. They approved it, and we received a
commemorative plaque. We were also given time to discuss the issue of
viral hepatitis, and how it is affecting the community and people
worldwide.

We were able to discuss our syringe exchange and outreach activities,
and even one of our most conservative supervisors was open to listening
and asking questions.

Hooray!!!!!!

Here is what we have going on here at HRCSO in Roseburg, OR.

We are offering an all day free screening and Vax event and throwing in
Tdap
as well. Anyone who wants an HIV rapid test can get one of those while
they
are at it. All this and syringe distribution. We will have a CD nurse
from
public health doing the draws and Vax while I do the NEX and HIV
testing.

Peace,

" I officially nominate Askye as Daily Srength President for HepC Advocacy!

What an incredible job you are doing on the so important issue for all us and the world.

Evertime I see a new entry I am so very proud of you and all the motivated people working so hard!

I will be unable to attend the TX walk and am SO disappointed. More so that there is no Support Group at all I can find in AR? - Gonna have to start one I guess?

Godspeed Askye - keep the info flowing.

I added the part about the Congress resolution, etc to that reporter - I'm still waiting to hear from.

BruceM is also trying to get local paper to write article and having hard time. You would think they would like a great article like these handed to them???

Bless ya dear xoxo "

" hey, my friends! on saturday here in houston we had a hep c awareness day. my friend dean moore (texas liver coalition) had organized it several months ago. dean was very vocal in the hep c world and in the recovery world. everybody loved dean. he also moderated a radio show and helped many, many people who needed treatment but didn't know what to do due to no insurance and the like get into trials being offered here. anyway, 6 weeks ago dean passed away. dean was offered a liver some time back but refused it because he felt a young woman needed it more than he did as he felt "alright." that was dean, though, and he often inquired as to how she was doing. we kept dean's memory alive and had ourselves quite a day. free hep c testing, awareness of the trials offered, food, drinks (no alcohol-lol,) and several blues bands donated their time for free. earlier in the day we had a 53rd anniversary celebration for my home group (which was dean's home group as well) and some of the bands played there as well. it was funny because the bands played outside this big house of ours and several cars pulled over to listen. more often than not, they jumped out and came with. beers, that is. never guessed it was an aa function. we had one kid play--he's a houston prodigy-- and his name is dalton dunn. i first saw him when he was 11 and he just keeps getting better--a little stevie ray vaughn protege. here is a link to him:

just thought i'd share my day. btw, my roommate is going into a trial in a couple of weeks. dean's legacy lives on....devon "

" I just called my Rep and 2 of my Senators. If you use the link provided above for congress it will direct you to the website where you simply enter your zipcode. It will pull up you local rep/senators for President/Congress. Just choose one and click on their name and then click above their profile pick where it says contact. You will be greated by a live person. So be ready ask to speak to your Rep/Sen________, they will either tell you he or she is busy or try to take a message. Then say I would like to speak to the staff person who handles health care issues. They will ask for your name and what it is regarding. Tell them it is in regards to the viral hepatitis programs in the Fiscal Year 2009 appropriation bill and they will patch you through to a voice mail where you can then read the above script! LOL I work on the phone for a living so If anyone doesnt really want to make the call, let me know your zip code and I will make the calls for you. If they try to ask who you work for say this is my rep/Sen and I live in city, ST and I would like to leave a message please. Same directions for the website, it will be on their contact info. If you dont want to make a call then send an e-mail!! Just copy and past the info above! I also of course added that 1 in 12 people have HCV and for every 1 person that has AIDS 4 people have HCV!! :) "
