Break from TX
Watch this
View More Posts Ignore
I'm in week 20 of TX and I took a break from Tx for 4 days. No riba, No Paxil, Nothing. I feel much better. Man I needed the break. I am so sick of feeling like shit. My question is did I do any damage to the program? Seems like a few days without it shouldnt be a big deal. Anyone know?

" I was told that you can take a break from the pills....like a day or two. Anymore than that is not good. I am not gonna berate ya brother cause at the end of the day its your liver, but with this treatment there is a reason they tell ya to take 5 pills a day. If I was you I would call your Doctor and get his advice. "

" My GI decreased my dose because I was getting real sick. He bumped it up in less than a month, however, I'm doing more time on TX now...dont know if its related or not. I dont think I would mess with your dose unless your told to. This TX is hell isnt it? Be well and take care. "

" You needed a break? So does your liver. The virus has been bashing your liver and damaging it.
That's why you were on tx - to clear the virus and give your liver a break and also the ability to heal itself.

Have you done any damage? I don't know. Have you told your dr what you did?

I don't think anyone has said this tx is a walk in the park but if you want to help your liver, you do what's needed. If you really cared about your liver, you would stick with the program and play by the rules. "

" I'll explain what a big deal is to not take your ribavirin.

The riba pills are designed to weaken your immune system, so that the interferon (shot) "gets to get a to go free pass."

If you do not take the riba especially for a week, well you immune system had time to recuperate a bit, which will lessen the effect of your shot.

If a person takes his riba religiously, the immune system is soo weak that the interferon does it's job at 100%.

In other words, your shot tomorrow will not be able to do it's job perfectly due to the fact that your immune system is protective now."build up"

It might take a couple of weeks until your imuune system is back down enough for the interferon to do it's job at 100%.

Treatment almost killed me, but I knew I just had to go thru the whole thing religiously in order to kill the beast within, like my hubby did.

Hopefully you are genotype 1, that you need to do 48 weeks, this way you might have a chance that it didn't screw up your chance at relapsing post treatment.

Good luck

" I understand what the Riba does but the sides were so bad that I had not only the usual ones, headache, vomiting, severe anemia, insomnia, confusion, but also BP that was at the danger level. Last week I had a temp of 101 along with everything else. 2 months ago I had to quit a 6 figure job due to the physical and mental strains of this TX. I now make almost nothing and can barely afford meds. I also am a divorced father with custody of my 12 year old son. My break was as much for the mental aspect as anything. I need to figure out some kind of game plan with a clear head (as best as I can). I'll be back on the 6 Riba pills tomorrow (Sat) and the shot at night. "
