i was diagnosed with hbv which i aquired from my mother during child birth. of course, she has a much worse case than i do, her viral levels were in the millions before she got treatment. she has scarring to her liver, etc...

my viral count is around 250k. is that bad? i really don't know all there is to this virus. i am waiting to see a liver specialists but in hawaii they are all backed up in appts. i have been waiting for over two months for an appt i was supposed to have in aug. they called me yesterday to "reschedule" my appt which is going to be six more weeks away.

" Hi,
Your viral load is very low. You need to check you ALT and AST, if they are normal I don't think you should hurry to start treatment. Once you start treatment and develop resistance to it then you don't really have other options. You should have a biopsy done, this way you know if there is any liver damage. I've had the hep b since 1994 and I only started treatmen 1.5 yrs. ago. My dr. did lab work and ultra sound every six months, and when I had a big flare she recomended treatment.
Good luck. "

" I'm sorry, but i just double check your viral load again. Did you mean 250,000 or 250. If it's 250, it is low. If it's the other one, it is slightly high, depends on your ALT and AST. When ALT is high that's when damage is being done to the liver. You really need to find good hepatologist. "

" I was in Oahu and the appointments are long. My intial viral count was 144K which they told me that it was low. I was also born with it and my mother passed away from it. For a while I did not know much about it and didn't bother me until last year.

They are right about your ALT and another good sign would be a low platlet count. But if you had it from birth, then you may want to get it checked out. It took 30 yrs for me to show any signs but I almost died due to esophiagel Varices. Thank God my fiance was their to take me to the ER. I also suggest no more alcohol or ease on the tylenol. I even quit smoking. "
