Procrit

I am starting to become anemic due to destruction of red blood cells caused by the Ribavirin I am taking. My nurse recommends Procrit but I really don't want to endure an additional injection weekly along with my PegInterferon. Anyone using/used Procrit? Can I struggle through with out it and hope for the best? I am about 4 weeks into treatment

" I am no longer on tx, it failed, but I had to do procrit in the final weeks due to low counts. I don't know if it was because I had been on tx for 5 months or what, but that procrit KICKED my butt! I feel into an extremely deep depression, cried constantly, could not get out of bed, it was really awful for me....think it over carefully, if you are already depressed, as I was, I hope it doesn't take you where it took me. best of all to you. xoxo "

" I had the same problem but not as soon. I needed Procrit (Epogen) after about 10 weeks. I did not like the extra injection idea as well. But the drug worked so well and with red cell counts slowly returning to normal I began to feel so much better. If red blood cell counts get to low you will have to do a blood transfusion to remain on treatments. I would recomend using the Procrit if it is made availible to you.
Note: I was also having to do daily injections of Neupogen to help boost white blood cell counts. This also worked very well and helped me to stay strong while on treatments. "
