hemorrhoid banding complications

Just had banding of an internal hemorrhoid. Had severe pain at the time of the procedure. Had to return to have the band "repositioned." Continued to have pain for 8 days, missed two days of work. Had to take pain medications for the first time in my life. The surgeon acted like I was the only patient EVER to have this complication. Fortunately, the pain eased on the ninth day, but I have not yet returned to my normal routine, ie work-outs, sleep, etc.
I had this done for minor hemorrhoid symptoms. I recommend that people understand that this is not a benign procedure for all people. I was very worried that I might have been developing an abscess. There have been fatalities after this procedure. The pain I experienced was the worst in my life, including postoperative pain after knee and shoulder surgeries. Just trying to do my best to help people who may, like me, just assume that this is an easy uncomplicated office procedure. Posted on 04/14/08, 07:04 pm |

Hi All surgeons make it seem as if this is not a big deal. It is totally painful and affects some people in a very negative way.
I told my last doctor who wanted to band my hemmies that I would do, after he had it done once. Then and only then could he tell me it didn't "hurt" Just thought you would like to hear a voice in agreement with you.
