Is it or Isn't it a Hemorrhoid??

Hey all,

I could really use some input. My doc dismissed me as having an internal hemorrhoid, but from what I've read it doesn't seem to fit the profile.

I'm late 30's, never had a problem with constipation, am in good physical health and never had an indication a hemorrhoid would be an issue. Last weekend very rapidly an extremely painful situation happened around my anus. Went to see the doc and the doc said it was an internal hemorroid. Nothing has ever protruded and nothing has ever bled.

I've done everything he said, sitz baths, cortisone, fiber, fruit, aspirin, etc and the pain has just kept escalating to the point of being excrutiating.

I've since been able to tell that there is a lump, but its not dirctly at the anus, its between 1 and 2 inches to the left of the anus. It feels about the size of a golfball now and its painful as all get-out!

I've read that thrombosed internal hemorrhoids are extremely rare, but this is what best fits the location and pain intensity.

My question to the group is, does anyone have any suggestion of what else it might be that could come on so rapidly and so painfully in the general vicinity of the anus yet not be a hemorrhoid?? Any thoughts and input would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

" I have an update. I went back to the Dr today and I have a huge abscess that is blocking one of my hemorrhoid veins, so I have the pain of a thrombosed hemorrhoid vein compounded with the pain of a kiwi sized abscess. That makes a little more sense. I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow. Yeah! Hopefully an end to this ordeal... "

" That is some ordeal. You know my husband had something similar that kept coming and going. I believed he had some internal fissure. He didn't want to go to the doc to get it fixed. I guess it didn't pain him that much. But your post reminds me to ask him about it. Nobody should ignore these kinds of problems. I was going to post that I didn't think what you were feeling was an internal hemmorhoid because they don't cause lumping up that far away from the rectum.
External ones would very much be noticed by feeling and seeing. Please post back on your results. I am very interested in how they treated this and how you feel. Thanks for posting. And sorry, I don't get on this board often enough to catch the latest news. "
