" My surgen told me to use the rubber band method isn't the best idea since it can trap the vein in the tissue that it is cuttin off. The best way is to cut under the skin to remove the swollen vein. "

" Hi
I've just had this done (5 hrs ago), so too soon to tell if its worked. But was not aware of problems that can happen re Lizgirl's message. Also I wonder why it hurt nikkibrow so much, it was painful when it was actually being done, like someone sticking a knife in you, but now I just have a dull ache and have no proble sitting etc. "

" I had this done as part of a complex hemorrhoidectomy on 10/30/07. Since I had external cauterization as well, I can't tell how much of the pain was caused by the rubber band ligation for the two internal hemorrhoids. I find it interesting that my doctor didn't say anything about trapping the vein in the tissue. I think more of my pain was from the external burnoff than the internal, but who knows. "

" My Dr. is wanting me to have my hemroids removed in and out. She said since I was so young it was easier, and now it is not as hard on you, but I am still scared to death. I know when I have flare ups I can't stand sit walk, it's awlful, so with out the flare ups and no hemroids would be very nice, I am going to wait til after X-mas to decide. I hope if I do it goes well. Any information for me would be much appreciated. Amy "

" Amy: If you have having that many problems than do it. I am 48 and just had internal banding and external cauterization (complex hemorrhoidectomy). I will be at 5 weeks next Tuesday. I am healing slower than most (single parent with sole custody and work full time), but I still think it is worth it. No matter what take stool softener after surgery and have prune juice on hand because the pain meds are really constipating (never had that problem beofre this). I am finally feeling human even though my doc says I need about 6 more weeks to be at 100%. I am back at the gym and doing water aerobics. If you need it, do it. No lie, it will hurt, but take care of it.

Lisa "

" Amy36 and LisaLisaR, I am sorry to hear of all your trouble, my husband has been through hemmrodiectomy and rubber band lidigation, from his hemmrodietomy though he thinks it caused anal stenois, so be careful, I read other places (this was after he had it done, doctors don't tell you this stuff) that it can cause anal stenosis, which can only supposedly be treated by cutting the muscle, which must be so very painful, and I was wondering if anyone had this done, and if so how painful was it and how long were you in pain? And also with the hemmroidectomy, what pain meds were you given? Thank you "

" They gave me Vicodin at first which only worked for about 2 hours at a time. I was then given Percocet. I stopped taking the pain meds after about a week and just used Extra Strength Tylenol because the Vicodin/Percocet was so constipating. Anal stenosis is a rare complication after hemorrhoidectomy (narrowing of the canal). There are supposed to be surgical techniques for that, but I was told that was a rare complication. "
