My partner and I are due to have a baby boy in April, she is a carrier so there is the obvious 50/50 chance that he will be infected with severe type a haemophilia.
Yesterday we were having a consultation with the haemotologist who brought up the subject of giving a shot of Factor VIII at birth even if it had been a trauma free delivery to prevent any bleeds that may occur over th coming days. This semmes like a sensible idea but we have heard that some people belive that this can increase the chances of our child developing inhibitors in later life, but not enought recerch has been done to prove or disprove this. Does anyone have any experience regarding this because as much as I want to say give the shot I also dont want to increace the chance of him getting poorley later on. Many thanks David Posted on 02/05/08, 05:02 am |
