I've been seeing a respected rhuematologist for symptoms of fibromyalgia. She requested a brain MRI to rule out MS, which was done 7.5.07 (last friday) and by that afternoon left me a message to call her. I reached her Monday, she told me a nasal mass was found, she's trying to set up an ENT consult. In meantime she wants me on predisone for pain symptoms.
Since the nasal mass has not been diagnosed I am very hesitant to start predisone. MS was ruled out.
I have been stumbling, falling, right side weakness, seem to have thought blackouts in middle of doing something, strange headaches which are not headaches but actually left eye pressure/pain with skull tenderness. Mood swings also, but at my age no one takes them seriously:-) If any of this sounds like something to anyone, please let me know before I start on predisone. all this is quite unexpected, but we have all kinds of cancer in both sides of family so I guess i want to grasp whether this sounds serious, my doc sounded more concerned than usual. thank you for any help.

" I need to add, I've been in the ER 2x since November with 5 separate episodes of intense vomiting/nausea which has been diagnosed as gastritis and intestinal obstruction neither of which show up in GI series or CAT scan--the atacks come spontaneously resolve in days, are exhausting. I ahve IBS, but gastro says this is not IBS. "

" I had a malignant tumor removed in front of my ear 6/6. Surgeon did good job-had to damage facial nerve to left eye. The entire left side of my head swelled like a balloon. Inner earache. Blood from nose, back of throat sore. What happens to our bodies effects our brain so the closer the mass is to our brain literally the more the brain is effected. Headache or brain pain can cause stomach upset. Ginger tea and cookies good for that. "

" Hi Hon, I am not a doctor but I would say to please think about a second opinion. My husband has been taking prednisone and he is having problems with the medication.Maybe you do need to take it but it can cause alot of the symptoms that you are already experiencing.Lots of love to you and I hope you feel better!!! " I too had a nasal mass and was prescribed prednisone early on. Prednisone is often used in this scenario to try to shrink the mass should it not be a tumor but something like polyps. Speak with your doctor to understand why you are taking each medicine and what is the expected duration you'll be taking it. My mom takes prednisone for a completely different reason and it carries a lot of side affects. Ultimately its up to you if you believe the gain outweighs the side affects. "

" My husband developed 2 lesions on his brain, and the Dr.'s prescribed prednisone for the swelling. He also had 14 radiation treatments on his brain. He died on 4/14/07. You see he also had esophgeal cancer. That is another lomg story. Anyway he died before we could find out if it did any good. He was a fighter, till he could fight no more, than the tumor burst, suddenly. I would say ask your Dr. specifically what the prednisone is for. And Definitely get a couple of other opinions. "
