Hi Everyone,
I've really found a lot of helpful information in this support group and decided to join because I could use the emotional support as well. I was diagnosed with HPV a few months ago, had a second pap that came back abnormal, and have since done nothing. This is because my family does not know I was sexually active and telling them will really end everything. I am delaying seeking treatment until I can go to a planned parenthood clinic (anyone know if they can treat me?)

The doctor told me I had low grade HPV, but I don't quite know what that means.

I'm also really upset right now, because I have been trying to enter the military, but I found out that an HPV positive result disqualifies you immediately. Dreams out the window until I can get this solved.

I had the Guardisil shots, but still got this. I blame myself, for being stupid and letting go of my morals. None of this would have happened if I had just waited.

I guess my main question is, will I always test positive for HPV, thus barring me from the military? Also, what is this "low grade" business, what does this mean?

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your support and your feedback.

" I think you will always carry it like chicken pox but your body grows immune to the infection. But in a lot of cases if your body grows immune your paps start coming back normal meaning you cleared the infection. dont beat yourself up you could of waited and married the man of your dreams and even if he has been with 1 other girl you are at risk 80% of women will get hpv in there lifetime. they dont know how many men because men dont get tested like women. my friend sara had hpv when she was 17 and she cleared it she is now in the army. so keep your dream...get treated as soon as possible. eat lots of foods with antioxidents, take vitamens, green tea is good for you, excersise. and if you need any support im here. " Like chicken pox, eh? Thanks for the analogy, it helps explain it for me. Thank you for your support. Are there any vitamins in particular that you recommend. I've read a lot of people are taking Folic Acid, I believe. Does anyone know why this helps or if it helps? "

" I'm sorry u r going thru all this. I know how hard it is when you find out. You're not alone, though. My heart goes out to you. It is possible for your body to rid itself of the HPV. You need to be healthy, keep your stress level down, no smoking, and take folic acid, and vit.B&C really helps, too! Hang in there,k. ~hugs~ "

" Hi scared..
first of all ... its a very frightening and life shattering experience to be told you have some form of sexually transmitted infection ... the reality is society places far too much negative stigma on these issues ... however until this changes i guess people will be made feel terrible about these things ... dont punish yourself with the what ifs and if onlys ... its not constructive focus on the fact of arming yourself with knowledge and understanding which you can use to your advantage
you do not need to tell your family this is a decision that in time you can make ... if you are of the legal age to be having consensual sex ... i assume you are or even if your not you still have the right to access health care without family permission i guess if money is going to be an issue then you will have to weigh up your options and go from there !!
* you need to know is it that you have low risk hpv or do you have warts ? how did this diagnosis come about ?
* you need to not only get information from here but from credible websites and from your gp and from your health clinic professionals
* im not sure about overseas but in australia we have family planning clinics and also sexual health clinics they diagnose and also treat they are also a wealth of information and they are people who deal with this day in day out ... ask any question no question is a silly question arming yourself with knowledge is often the best way to allay those feelings and try to alleviate stress
* hpv is not something which should prevent you from entering the military i think this is something you need to further look into ... and im not sure how this should prevent your acceptance ... especially if they dont need to know about it ... hpv is not something that hinders your abilty to work etc ... its something which 80 per cent of the population have ... some have subclinical infections which means showing no outward signs ... some get outward signs eg warts and some with high risk need close monitoring to see that cancer does not result or if it does that speedy treatment comes into play ...
* i hope that you work things out ... find out some information the sooner that you start getting on top of this ... and getting the ball rolling toward understanding what your facing the easier it will become ...

all the best with it "
