Hi all,
have a question about the different strains....I've heard some strains are more severe in their persistence and I was wondering which strains those ones are??? I would like to get the test to find out which strains I have and if they are more persistent than the others...thanks

" Ive been looking that stuff up aswell, even tho i dont know what strain i have, and only that it is a high-risk type... but this is something online that sums up a lot of what i've learned through my own research.

'Of the high-risk types, HPV type 18 and HPV 16 have long been known to be particularly dangerous. These two genetic types and six others (31, 33, 35, 45, 52, and 58) account for 95% of HPV-related cervical cancers. Other high-risk types are 39, 51, 56, 59, 68, 73, and 82. All are associated with moderate dysplasia (CIN II) and carcinoma in situ (CIN III). Types 26, 53, and 66 are considered high-risk.'

Hope this helps a bit!
oh yeah, and how do you get the test to find out what strain you have? is that the same test as the general HPV one? im confused with all of this! "

" oh yeah, and to add to the which ones are more persistent, the doctor told me that generally, the high-risk types are harder to get rid of than the other strains.
Not sure if i answered your question or not tho! sorry if didnt! "

" I don't think there is a straight forward answer to your question because the progression of HPV depends on so many different factors in addition to the type of strain: health of your immune system, your stress level, if you have an autoimmune disease like me (I have Lupus), if you're taking medication that could be affecting the HPV. Best bet would be to ask your doctor. "

" A DNA test was not available where I got my pap and colposocopy - they only know if it is a high-risk strain or not - not the exact number. DNA tests are available at a place near Washington, D.C., but I asked this very question and found, indeed, it is not necessarily something your medical care has available. I really wanted to know, because I wanted to find out if I could still get the vaccine, but I am only a hit or miss without knowing for sure (which, of course, may be something). "
