Hello folks! I know you haven't heard from me in quite a while and may have been wondering what was up with me. I apologize to my friends that I left "hanging" and who may have been thinking the worst.
I have actually been better than ever! I quit smoking in October, met the man of my dreams in November, have lost 50 lbs to date, and just had my first normal "pap" in over 2+ years! When Dale and I met, it didn't take long for us to figure out that we were falling madly in love with each other. And I felt it was important for him to know about my HPV status. (After two leeps and one month of quitting smoking, my dysplasia downgraded to "abnormal.") As I was telling him, he stopped me by leaning in and kissing me, said "thank you for telling me," and then told me he has had HSV for 15 years. So we both have a history of living with an std, and we both know that that means being extra responsible and paying attention to our bodies. It's not always easy - like the time he pointed out I had a "bump" down there. But our sex life is very healthy. And now, after 228 days of being smoke free, watching what I eat, exercising, and getting enough rest, I had my first "normal" pap in 2+ years! What I want everyone to know is that there is hope for recovery and a full, happy life. It takes hard work, effort, and battling the "negative" demons - but it is possible if you believe! Best wishes to everyone who is currently struggling. It may seem dark right now. Just know that the sun WILL shine again! Posted on 05/14/08, 09:05 am |

I did not gain weight when I quit because my "quit" was part of an overall plan to get healthy. So instead of feeling like I was depriving myself of something, that I needed to replace with food, I focused on what I was giving to myself - health.

Thanks all. Once you are through the "storm" it's easy to forget the entire experience in the quest to "move on." I felt it was important to share the good news with my DS friends as well as the bad.
I remember how dark my days were during the worst of it. And DS was a great resource. I wish for "good news" for all of you.
