My Dr says a cure within the next few years

I went in today to visit with my ID doctor for the results of my blood work. My CD4 count is 665 and viral load is 2900, but my Dr says my CD4 count is a little on the low side. I'm confused about this. However he did mention that I have a great outlook with the virus. A cure might be developed within the next few years. Would he lie to me and give me false sense of hope? Has any of your ID doctor mention anything of this sort? I would really appreciate any and all response.

" 25 yrs with hiv and im healthy.
cure is a word people try to stay away from because, like you say, nobody wants to give false hope.
in 25 years, ive heard nothing about a possible cure for aids 'in a few years'.
is this an hiv specialist?
one thing i can tell you for sure, the more you dig and read and learn, on your own, the better your odds are at managing a health life, this is true for any illness. nobody knows YOU like YOU.

it's generally agreed among patients that knowledge is power. information and education saves lives, and this goes way beyond safe sex guidelines

we have a few medical professionals that frequent the site here, perhaps you can get their opinion. do a search for drduke, he's a member here and he's more than willing to help you with stuff. (i hope im not filling your desk, dr duke)... he's helping me work out a nightmare that im going thru now.
my freekin doctor lied to me about some very serious side effects of a new med he wanted to give me (not an hiv med) and now that im very sick, from just that thing he decided not to inform me about, ive been more ill this summer than in the last 13 years.

furious doesnt begin to describe it. so evne after 25 years of successfully dealing with hiv, im still very very cautious and distrusting of doctors. i do my own reading and investigating even when i AGREE with a doctor, i still go and learn all i can. i failed to do that this time, and you cannot know the grief im suffering for once more, deciding to trust a doc ive had for five years.

a cure in a few years....?....
sounds a bit optimistic to put it mildly, and nobody could be faulted for calling it an outright lie, im sorry. "

" I thought thati had written a reply here yesterday and then today I see that nothingis here. Maybe I just thought I did but never wrote it, just thought it? I dunno, but anyway, I justwanted to say that I see my ID Doc every three months and he has never mentioned anything about a CURE in a few years. I think that if there were going to be a cure, plenty of people would be rounding their doctor's door to wait to get the injection or special cure pill. Do you see an HIV specialist? I am going to ask my doc in Sept at my appt but I can almost guareentee that he is going to tell me that there is no cure as of yet...I am sorry and please don't get to upset..I know it is hard but your doc should not be telling you things like thatunless he has actual proof to back up his statements...I would ask him more questions....xo "

" I WOULD SPECIFICALLY ASK HIM WHAT MAKES HIM THINK YOURE NOT GOING TO TAKE THE WORD CURE VERY VERY VERY SERIOUSLY, AND HOW DOES HE THINK HE CAN ETHICALLY THROW A WORD ARROUND LIKE THAT SO CASUALLY, WHEN THEY ARE TAUGHT VERY VERY SERIOUSLY IN MEDICAL TRAINING, NOT TO ISSUE CASUAL STATEMENTS THAT COULD MISLEAD A DOCTOR. IT'S SIMPLY ETHICALLY QUESTIONABLE AT BEST, AND HIS BOSS WOULD CERTAINLY CORRECT THAT HABIT.

SOMETIMES THESE DOCTORS JUST WANT TO 'HELP YOU' GET THRU THE DAY, OR AT LEAST TIL YOURE OUT OF THEIR OFFICE. THEY'LL SAY STUFF TO A NEW PATIENT, THAT, IF THEY SAID THE SAME THING TO AN OLD SALT LIKE ME, I WOULD UNDERSTAND IT WAS JUST 'WORDS OF COMFORT'... ETC.

IT TAKES A GOOD TIME BEFORE YOU LEARN TO 'READ' THESE SORTS OF THINGS. LIKE THE BIT ABOUT PEOPLE RAVING ABOUT A CERTAIN DOCTOR, AND THEN FIND OUT THEY ONLY LIKE HIM CAUSE HE'S SEXY, OR GAY LIKE THEM, OR BLACK, OR FEMALE, AND THATS IMPORTANT TOO, BUT THAT ALONE DOES NOT MAKE A GUY THE TOAST OF THE TOWN.

MANY THINGS IN HIV ARE CLOUDED BY PERSONAL OPINION AS YOU ARE QUICKLY LEARNING. "

" The ONLY cure to HIV is a vaccination. That is the only way to irradicate this virus (in my opinion, of course). I would rather they concentrate on that. I want my daughter to be able to vaccinated against this virus. Eventually, those with HIV, will pass away from old age, just like ALL people do. Look at polio. No cure was ever found; only a vaccine. Virtually no one has it, today. "
