" I wouldn't be here either had I known better! I feel as though their should be mandatory counseling before making uninformed decisions that effect or lives so vastly and unequivocally. "

" Nice info, But I have not heard of an Endo. Just doing RAI and not trying ATD's first anyway!!! Has anyone just right away got RAI and did not try ATD"S first? I dont think I have heard that??
Its after the ATD's arent effective or a reaction to them has been established and then RAI or Surgery are suggested. Think this is just not even accurate info. "

" When I was hospitalized a few years ago for a thyroid storm, the first Endo I saw in the ICU, insisted on an RAI right away. But first he gave me the Methimazole to take only for six weeks after I insisted on trying the ATDs. I only talked to the guy for 15 minutes but his words were no, no, and no every so often. He tried to patronize me and plus he was an older gentleman, probably from the older school of doctors.

When I left the hospital three days later, I knew that there were better options than this to be rushed out into having an RAI! So I'm happy I found another doctor (a holistic one) who directed me to another Endo who allowed his patients to stay on long-termed ATDs.

The 'funny' thing about it was that I had a follow-up call with the hospital three days after coming home, wanting to know if I had followed the first Endo's recommendation to make an appointment for an RAI. I said no, that I'd made an appointment with a NMD/MD type physician specializing in Thyroid/Adrenals/and other hormonal type care. I was asked for the doctor's whole name and his address. I firmly told the hospital that this is what I was going to do first. The hospital never called me back since then. I was thinking that the hospital sure was vbery eagar to direct me to making an appointment at a Nuclear place.

Take care... :-) "
