Hello to all of you just like me. I just wanted to list my symptoms and see if you all tick the same as me? Itchy scalp, burning feet, pain in neck and jaw radiatig to ear, racing heart, hot flushes, headaches, extreme fatigue, muscle and joint paint, muscle degeneration, dry eyes, itchy eyes, muscle twitches, feel like you going to explode, anxiety, dizziness, nervousness, anger, dry mouth, weight loss, weight gain, mouth ulcers, dry itchy skin.... any others you can list?
Just some more support.... I have a very controlling demanding and emotionally abusive older sister suffering with cirrhosis of the liver and is unwell, who is giving me the silent treatment because I can't look after her. Should I feel guilty? Or am I not really ill myself? Aaarrrgggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Posted on 07/09/08, 12:07 am |

We are all feeling these symptoms in one degree or another. There are 42 listed in a paper for the National Graves' Disease Foundation. Read my post in "Feeling sorry for myself" #11. It may help. My sister put me in the same position because I could not take care of our mother any more. (she never has. To busy w/social life)DON'T ever feel guilty, you also have your health to take care of.

HI, Helenagraves. So far, my symptoms aren't that bad, but they are getting worse. Please try not to feel guilty. I know it's hard, but it won't help anyone -- least of all you. My guilter is more passive-aggressive, but I've learned to put it aside -- not quite sure how, but I feel bad enough without accepting an extra dose of guilt. Hope things ease up soon.

Thank you so much for your responses. I too had to look after my mother when she was dying with cancer and I was the one who always brought dad home from the nursing home for weekend lunches and family get togethers. I am over being the family carer. No wonder I got struck down with something. The stress in my life has been just too too much. I am one of six children yet the only one who has ever really done anything for my siblings. I'm over it. I am also sick of production line doctors and doctors who shouldnt even have their degree.

Hey Helena,
I'm one of six siblings, too! What a weird world? I am the only one with Graves (thank goodness!) All the rest of my sibs are healthy as can be. I think its important for your own recovery to limit your exposure to people who are needing too much of your time. If you are anything like me, the stress is going to make you feel physically bad and drain you emotionally, and will ultimately prolong your illness. It is time to take care of yourself, and let the others care for themselves. Hugs! Heather

Propranolol- Beta Blocker will help with most of these symptoms...as will being Positive and moving forward with a treatment of some kind.... There really is no reason for that many symptoms. Some may just be a part of getting older and some can be helped with propranolol. The rest can be somewhat helped with ATD's until a treatment is choosen.( RAI or Surgery) The Dr. should not let you suffer with all that as it can be dangerous to your Body, to keep it up.I would let your Dr. know all this and get on Prop. and ATD's ASAP!!! Good Luck and God Bless

Hi Helena,
Sometimes we can get multiple autoimmune disorders at the same time. The dry eyes, dry mouth and mouth ulcers are symptoms of Sjogren's syndrome (which I also have, on top of having Graves disease.) You should get yourself checked out for it, too. Its pronounced "Show-grins" syndrome, and it requires different drugs to treat than you'll need for your Graves disease. The muscle twitches, muscle atrophy, anxiety, nervousness, anger, racing heart and extreme fatigue are all classic Graves disease symptoms. The joint pain can be linked to both Graves and Sjogren's as well as Rheumatoid arthritis. You may need to see a rheumatologist as well as an endocrinologist in order to feel your best. I hope you feel better, soon! Love, Heather
