How nobody talks about how bad the after affects are of this drug. Yes it helps with the attack but I do not enjoy spending the following 24 hrs after treatment on the bathroom.

" it sure is tough on the digestive system huh?

I break the ice a little ..

stuff gave me hemoriods really bad - i thought I was going to need surgery as I was drip-dropping blood into the toilet

I ended up carrying around 'wet wipes' with me and finally cleared it up after a few months of careful cleaning and no-colchicine "

" I asked my Dr and she said it was not from the Chol... but ever since I started, my bowel movements have been "difficult" just not right...

I take it everyday as preventitive nad havent had an episode since Jan... Anyone else take it as preventive? I am thinking of getting off so as to get "right" again but I fear another attack more! "

" I know what you mean. I am going through a minor gout attack now (started sunday) and have some Colch left over from last time..yea got rid of my gout almost over night, but tore my stomach up for the next 2 days.. I am trying to stick with the Indocin..still bothers me a bit in the stomach but not quite as bad as the Colcine. If you read up on Colchine is actually a very toxic posion.. I could not figure out why my doc was only giving me .50 mil until I read that! "

" I agree the stuff is NASTY. It does work much better than Indocine for the severe attacks however. And for me unlike Indocine which makes the pain go away gradually over time, the colchocine busts it out in a day. Not much fun dealing with the side effects though...:( "

" I used to take cochicine but then switched Docs who took me off the stuff stating that it is an archaic drug whose side effects out weigh its effectivness. It actually is the oldest prescribed drug and they have been prescribing it for 200 years or so. Unfortunatly there are only a few drugs for us Gout sufferers: Colchicine, Allopurinol and Probenicid...evrything else is NSAIDAs or other powerful antiinflammatories like Indocine. I take both allipurinol and probenicid because I have hyperuricemia or permanant gout, if you will. The cocktail mixture has worked for me bringing my number of attacks from about 10 a year down about 2 a year now. Good luck guys and stay away from Colchicine , I know you think it might work well but pissing out your ass and getting intestinal ulcer are no fun!!! "

" Indocin is not that bad but your body gets a tolerance real quick and so you cannot take it for very long. I only use it for major attacks but it does work well for that first few days to get that swelling down. Screw colchicine, I have stated before it is archaic and not worth pissing out your ASS!!! "

" Another thing to mention:

People, who have kidney or liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, or low white blood cell counts are not recommended to use colchicine.
